Gladstone
Got a call from Water Police that 3 blokes were stuck in a broken down boat off Gladstone. Head home and put my boat on the back, drive some 140km down, put boat in and tow the other boat in to shore then drive all the way back, so much for Chrissie dinner.
The 3 blokes had there outboard serviced at a cost of $700 two days before they left and it ran for 2-3nm, good reason to be well and truly pissed off IMO.
Another reminder to get a VHF set if you are thinking of travelling north with your boat. New 27meg set and no one to talk to, luckily there is good mobile reception there now.

Armidale
All they said is that he is in Armidale. I know I would be pissed off it was me, get motor serviced then travel some 800km , put boat in on the first day and only go 2nm, spend an hour trying to get it started then call for help and wait another hour and a half in water too shallow to catch decent fish and too far out to swim the boat in.
By the way , it was F#^%$ing hot on the drive down and back with a strong headwind on the downward leg.

Unfortunatly I've said it before
How many times have we all read or heard about people doing the right thing in getting their motor serviced before a long looked forward to trip away to ensure all is good and reliable.
Then only to find that the very thing they had paid good money for (a service of the motor) lets them down with possible life taking consequences.
There are a lot of good outboard mechanics out there and, unfortunately some bloody people who are just criminals IMO.
The consequences of this episode could have resulted in a triple tragedy, it didn't. But what it did result in is a few community volunteers' loosing one of the most cherished times with the family, Christmas dinner.
A very high percentage outboard motors fail immediately after being serviced.
When I used to get my motor serviced by the local outboard agency for Yammaha I also got his call out number and assured him that should anything go wrong with the motor he could be assured of getting constant calls in the wee small hours for the next month.
After getting the motor serviced I also took the boat for a good work out on the estuary prior to going away.
Glad the episode ended with all safe, and a big big thank you must go to canarvonite and people like him who give so much off themselves to keep us boaties safe.
Merry Christmas to all these guys and women.

Both the west and perth now have stories on it, as does ABC news on line.

VMR legends
Well done carnarvonite, you guys at all the VMRs do a tremedous job and a lot of times with very little gratitude or recognition, that being said I would suggest that most of the boaties and fisherman that use this site would certainly be aware of the selfless service that you and all the VMRs provide.
I certainly hope you enjoy the rest of the festive season and have a sefe and relaxing New Year, again well done.
