Afew nice feeds there, I've never caught any gummies don't know how to target them at all. My family loves the wobbies that I get from the pots sometimes though.
All cutting the fins off does is make it harder to clean by removing the handles.
Off with the head, guts and most importantly, the brown strip down the spine behind the gizzards. This is where the ammonia smell comes from. Don't forget to flush the hole down the spine through to the tail as blood congeals in there very quicly and goes off, spoiling the meat
If its someone else's boat and you don't have to help clean , then cut the tail off while still kicking and squirt everything with your red waterpistol, guaranteed to stop being invited for another trip out ever.

Best things about Gummys is how well they come out of the freezer, well that and meat to waste ratio, some reckon they are better once theyve been frozen...
I always trunk them out asap also, once the tail is gone run your knife up the spine removing about an inch wide of the skin from tail and keep going right up past the fins then you can access the cartlidge easily once that strip of skin is removed...
Anyway if you catching a few then I'm sure you are onto it...
Most times wouldn't bring hammers in because nobody wanted to buy the bloody things. Biiig wobbies are about the 2nd best, the first are protected but remember trying before it all came in, grey nurse. pure white flakey flesh and easy to fillet
With it . Just not as white as other sharks . I normally keep the odd shark for neighbours they love it . Never been super keen on it . Gummy’s are good value. Bugger all waste.( no red)
Tis the season, we got a few the last few weeks. Without dishing spots out, some nice accessible very metro spots are really firing land based regularly and I keep probably two or three gummies every Oct/Nov from these spots. Great on the chew, and a nice tussle too. +1 for the red stripe / flush the spine hole out - was shown along time ago by seasoned elders and it makes a serious difference along with a good ice slurry. Happy days.

Went out last night with perfect conditions to hit the gummy spot .......I should rename it.....tiger alley.....got two big tigers to the boat for release and lost an even bigger one after a long fight. Neve caught a tiger before and they are an impressive sight when they hit the surface. Only one fish taken home for a great dinner, a huge flathead that took a large yellowtail whole .....still that's fishing
The gummies have moved out and a mixture of tigers, black tips and bronzies have moved in in plague proportions.......seventeen traces later I pulled the pin, just how bad are the sharks getting in Cockburn Sound ?

No mako will ever back alive! Unbelievable meat. You'd never guess it was shark. Almost tastes like chicken.
