Hamelin Bay - Depth & What's biting
Submitted by Iceman on Fri, 2020-08-21 12:38
Hi all
Heading down to Hamelin Bay in 4 weeks for the first time. Will be takling Kayak so heading out into the bay.
Does anyone have any idea as to the maximum depth between the shore and the 2 islands.
Also what am I likely to catch this time of year? Had all booked for April and salmon season but well we know what happened to those well laid plans.
thanks

Gday Iceman, if you are only
Gday Iceman, if you are only in a yak then you'll be right because the weed over the ramp can be an issue this time of year.
Plenty of KGs in the sand holes VERY close to shore so don't be thinking further is better...
Worth drifting around inside the islands with a livey out under a balloon with a circle hook, good chance of a pink, YTK or a Sambo...
Enjoy...

Ground in Middle of Bay
There is some ground in the middle of the bay, read the maps and you'll find pretty easy.
we've picked up smaller model Dhu's on jigs for a muck around on the days that aren't to fisheable out wider.
also picked Dhu up just behind Elephant Rock

Channel
There is a channel that runs close to the inside of the island and deeper water on the south side, , good chance of big skippy, herring, pinkies and even a dhuey if you are lucky.
