Hand held GPS units.

Does anyone use a personal GPS tracker for way points when fishing? Was looking at the garmin etrek 10. My boats not that big so I thought a hand held GPs unit may be ok if I have some waypoints to head to. Any thoughts?

Not everyone has a smart
Not everyone has a smart phone.. Wait I lie everyone has them
I found with our garmin GPS handheld it only comes in to 20m, so you could possibly be off the mark by 20m or more
does the navionics work when you have no signal?

Navionics
Yes, works when the phone has no signal. Uses the GPS only, not data/cellular. I have found it does use a bit of battery power though, so make sure you turn it off when not in use.

Do you have to keep updating
Do you have to keep updating maps or subscriptions with the Naviionics app? How's the iPad after being in The salt water air?

Get yourself a life proof
Get yourself a life proof case for your phone or iPad and they are perfect!
i take mine out all the time which acts as a good backup,
the app doesn't have to be continually updated as "the roads" aren't changing like they do on a car gps
