Has anyone ever thought of tryin for bull sharks in swan

I was up at Ascot today passed my fav spot an noticed someone with a very large rod on roof rack parked nearby.

Got me thinking, i would assume people dont do it to not attract them, but still....Not something i would try these days as im not fit enough, but would interesting to know if anyone else has.

Heaps

Heaps of small ones in the Swan and have also heard stories from the old boys about ones up to 10ft. They reckon they started to taper off late seventies, early eighties.

There was a fella on the Shark Fishing WA FB page who put up a picture a couple of days ago of a small 2 footer he caught by hand when he found it had literally beached itself. Not sure exactly where but it was in the river. I've also had a couple of mulloway baits taken and ended up snapping through a rather heavy leader so I figured a shark (or possibly a stingray with a lucky flick of its tail).

Same here, baits chomped in half and 80, 100lb leaders snipped effortlessly a few times upstream of the narrows. Plenty of small bulls cruising the river

Considering the thousands of swimmers, skiers, divers and prawners that have been in the river in the last 40 years, with no attacks, I wouldn't be too stressed.

 Lots in thereused to night

Sun, 2015-10-18 21:37

 Lots in there

used to night dive for prawns and crabs every Thursday night at Coombe reserve for years and years

Most were about 2-3 foot, biggest I've seen was only 3.5 foot max, but they were thick - always in groups of 2-3 sharks

interestingly we never saw any when we saw rays....don't know what that means or is even relevant.....what I think is relevant is that when the water was overly salty rather than brackish then we didn't see them, when it was a bit fresh like on an outgoing tide or a few days after a decent rain (you can tell salt and fresh by temp changes mostly) you used to see more of them.

I have to be the unluckiest

I have to be the unluckiest (or luckiest) bugger in Perth. Whilst only a fairly new diver, I only started diving in 1997, and only dive in the river 20-30 times a year, most years, and only ever for prawns, or cave training. I have NEVER seen a shark or a ray.
I'm sure they are there, but the lack of attacks in that 15 or so years, makes me think it isn't a huge problem ;-)

Ive caught a few, even cooler was back in jan this year i was fishing belmont in the ski area and saw two bulls free jump more than a meter out of the water and flipping much like a mako would do, the river is full of them if you wanna catch em use fleshy smelly baits at night close to the banks in places like garvey or the maylands bamboo. They smell like arse when you get em out tho.
