heads up karratha cyclone headin your way (apparently)
hey guys just thought I'd give the guys in Karratha a heads up. I'm currently on the hermod a Dutch crane barge working on the North Rankin B jacket instulation we have been on cyclone watch the last 2 days and as of midnight last night We have now pulled all 10 anchors and are sailing sw at a rate of 5 knts (perfect trolling speed). We've all looked at BOM forecasts and cant see that its going to come close to us but Woodside made the call to start moving and at a cost of $1.5 million dollars a day for the hermod and us to be out here it must be a pretty sure thing. Apparently the forecaser that woodside pays big $$$$ too has checcked his models and predicts the cyclone to be around cat4 and heading straight over Rankin and heading for K town. Hope its not right for the guys in Ktowns sake but kinda hope it hangs around out here for a while wouldnt mind watching dvds and playing chess for the next 16 days beats welding in this heat and humidity. On another note has anyone got any suggestions for making some lures we are thinking about getting some spoons from the kitchen welding a few together maybe a few fraid strands of rope and making some sort of hook and tieng it too some scaff wire and 10mm rope surely wed get a mak attack or two.

Seems south wasn't the direction to head fella's seems it's heading south towards the NW cape and down the coast and away from there, a wet weekend but no tie down for Karratha it seems, only fair too i don't want another red alert on Oz Day and not scoring a day off.

We've gone into tie down here at Gap Ridge Village and Pluto, wind and rain are starting to build up, but that's more so from the monsoonal low that's just above us at present. Should be good for 50mm - 70mm. Hang on tight Exmouth, that's going to be a big one.

but according to the longer term forecast once it hits cat four it will change course to the south west and slide down the coast weakening as it goes! that info is off the riotinto website

I wasnt going to start packing things up until yellow, but with the advice of local word, i did most of it today. Hope all that work wasnt for nothing.
The waters stirred up, everythings packed up, the boats in the shed, better get something out of it, cause i think the water will be dirty for a while so fishing is out !

so yes it will be like a bad blowy winter storm, just hotter and wtter and a real chance of tornadoes and hail if it gets hot air up high enough!!!
wonder how the new houses built between Cervantees and Jurien will hold up, quiet a few on stilts and well above the wind shear line, so no protection from the sand dunes!!!
