Hi there im new to these forums, just saying hello to everyone.Im a 35 yo from melbourne and fish both westernport bay and port phillip bay. What a fantastic forum you have here, so much to learn and so little time lol.Ive just purchased a saltiga 30t reel with a monstermesh pe 3-6 rod and hope to have a lot of fun jigging with it.I have never jiged before and have no line on my reel as yet.Would anyone like to help me on the braid and mono i should be using. It would be mostly used for snapper, shark and king fish.
Thanks Happy Fishing......

welcome aboard
welcome burkie
was born I in Melb but I saw the light and left.....ha ha. In WA now. Na good memories and will be that way March for my folks 40th Anniversery......might try to hook up with some mates who have boats and try for some PP snapper.....
best to match your rod with the PE rating, but if you are chasing sharks and YTK then i would opt for max PE strain. but PE 5 (50lb) would be good.
plenty on market but i like coloured braid ( ie changes colour every 10m so you know yr depth.
as for mono then from my old fishing days in westernport I would be looking at 10kg at least for snapper then prob 20-30kg for sharks/YTK just depends on the amount you want on the reel.
so you chasing any mako's not really popular over this way....
cheers

Hi Burkie, We will forgive you for being from Melbourne because
you are a keen fisherman (Lol).
That's a good set-up. I have been told Tuff line is a good value jigging braid. (Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)
