went out to my spot off rockingham on saturday with a couple of mates and caught the normal kgw, sand whiting, skippy and herring which was plenty of fun,but when the berly started working and the bigger fish started to bite we couldnt get any on the boat, they would just run about 80-120 metres and then i'd get popped only to find that i'd still have my rig, could anyone please tell me wat the think i was doing wrong.i want to go even the score and catch a couple this weekend!!!

Bait
Sounds like your bait was too big for the hook, covering the point so that when the fish takes off it just slides out from its gob without hooking up.

i was out near rotto a few months ago with a full hearing on as a floater, something grabed it a took off like a rocket, pic my rod up ready for a strike and it goes limp.
after a few minutes nothing was happening so reel it up thinking i got busted.

i was going to say try
i was going to say try bigger hooks or maybe try the circle hooks. we have got these square bottom hooks that we use as keepers and thats what tends to get stuck in the corner of the fish's mouth, cant remember the name of them but they arent huge but work

Tainawas? Or something
Tainawas? Or something similar? Theres another brand too. Basically a circle hook but square not a circle :p Seems a fair few charters use them.
As for the dropped rigs. Sounds like something hitting the line and just holding onto the bait then dropping it after a run. If the hooks arent hitting, try different hooks :p (preferably 'sticky' sharp). Also, did you try striking while they were running? (you'd need to thumb the spool if they are taking drag)?

don't strike with circle
don't strike with circle hooks , just allow rod to load up.
keep line tight on all hooks
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

yeah hlokk i did try
yeah hlokk i did try striking when the fish was running, then it would feel like i had the fish hooked and then pop, off she'd come.i've been fishing for a few years now and never encountered this before, wats the odd of having the drag to tight and ripping the hook out of a fishes mouth?
