Help ! I need good advice...

Hi,

I am the mother of a little boy, 9 years old, and next week we will travel to your fantastic country and visit the west coast during 3 weeks. My son, Kenzo, is really passionate about fishing. Here in Switzerland he spends most of the summer fishing on the lake and can't wait to fish in the sea while we are in Austalia. Would you be kind enough to answer a few questions:

Does he need to take his equipment with or can he rent it on the coast?

Will be travelling from Perth to Monkey Mia. Are there any club, schools or private people with whom he could fish? If yes do you have a list of addresses and phone numbers?

Can a 9 year old child fish without permit from the coast? (without enterring into the sea). And on a boat?

Thank you very much for your help,

Best regards,

Marielle

don't need a permit to fish

don't need a permit to fish from the shore. if you go out to the sea on charters, you wouldn't need a permit i think. i'm not sure about any contacts though. i'm pretty sure you'll be able to find ppl here willing to take you out as long as you are willing to share the cost.

Does he get sea sick? I could

Does he get sea sick?  I could possibly get him out for a fish off my boat. Would you need to go with him on the boat?  He would not need fishing tackle as I could lend him some for the day.

as far as i m aware you will

as far as i m aware you will need to bring his rod and reel unless you want to buy a basic combo that you can get at a reasonable price in most tackle stores. with the tackle side of things you will be better off buying the basics over here so you dont have to carry too much luggage . there are plenty of places along the coast for him to fish , from jetties to beaches that are very safe and can produce all kinds of fish.for information on what fish are being caught and the types of rigs call into the local tackle store . most of them will be more than happy to help out. there are plenty of off shore fishing charters available to go out fishing in deep water and they will all have the basic deep sea fishing gear .enjoy your trip over and i am sure you will enjoy.

how long you in perth for?

Tue, 2010-12-07 05:47

i knock off for the year next week, i'll take him for a spin  inshore- he doesnt need a licence for fishing on a boat as long as he is with someone who holds one (whoever takes him out) anyone on this site would probably have more than enough gear to set him up with a rod and reel and tackle..

let me know your dates in perth and i'll let you know if i can help out,

cheers Dwayne

Marielle, I have a ten year

Tue, 2010-12-07 08:04

Marielle, I have a ten year old son who is too fishing mad. We can arrange for your son to join us on our boat on the Swan river and catch some bream and even go out into the Sound and catch some sea fish with us as well. I have enough gear for him to use and if you need to lend a basic rod and reel out fit for Monkey Mia I'm sure we can lend you one for you trip.

Tony

Hi Tony, my son was so happy

Hi Tony, my son was so happy as he learned about your message! We will land in Perth next saturday, the 18th and stay just one day before driving along the coast to Monkey Mia. We will spend then our three last days in Perth, from the 2nd until the 4th of january. I don't know if you will be free at this time. Thank you for your proposal to lend a rod to my son. It will be wonderfull but maybe it will be a little bit complicated to meet in Perth or neighbourhoods the 18th or 19th? I don't want to disturb you... Thank you for your message, I am really very touched by the kindness of all of you, who don't know us and propose your help

Smile Marielle

it's a pleasure, he will

Thu, 2010-12-09 09:59

it's a pleasure, he will have a ball with us, we will take him for some bream on the Swan River and into the Coburn Sound for some sea species. if the weather is good we could nip over to Rottnest Island as well.

I'm on leave from the 23rd to the 5th Jan and will be fishing as much as possible over the New Year weekend, so it will be perfect for him to join us on the 2nd or 3rd for boat trip out.

please let us know when you arrive, as we can arrange a rod and reel for him to loan for his trip to Monkey Mia,

All we want in return is small slab of real Swiss chocolate...lol

Coral Bay

I would suggest you plan time at Coral bay. There the Ningaloo reef comes close to the shore, wading distance. It is a marine sanctuary, and all the fish of which there are many are very tame, or take little notice of you snorkeling with them.

When your son has got over the wonders of being with these fish, there are fishing charters available there, equipment supplied.

Monkey Mia

He should have a ball just off the beach, but stay away from the Dolphin area. There are plenty of nice whiting (great to eat) just off the beaches up there. Simplest way is to go to a tackle shop and ask for pre-made whiting rigs, then its a simple matter of putting some bait like prawn pieces, or a bit of squid on the hook and he should be in for some fun, just feet off the shore. He wont need to cast very far at all as they come in right to the shore.

Just go to fisheries WA website to make sure you stay within the bag limits, but its 40 for whiting and that is a waste in my opinion.

http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/sec/rec/index.php

If he wants bigger fish there is some good charters out of Denham.

I am sure there is other options around that way but I am further north (Karratha) and I am sure someone will give advice on other options. But some of the sand whiting around that area are nice size whiting (not a big fish) and will keep him and the adults entertained at least.
