Hey mate. For rig/bait take a look at the knots/rigging section, was a thread recently about hezzas. As for areas, moles, cottesloe groyne, any marina rockwall and most beaches will yield herring

herring

my favourite method is flicking squidgy flickbaits in the 70mm size. purple top silver body worked best

plenty of burley and a quick jerked retrieve, makes catching a feed pretty fun

Lottery

Fished down at Floreat drain on Sunday morning. Ended up with 15 herring and 10 reasonable sized whiting between me and my young bloke. To be honest it was a good morning but have had plenty of mornings where we got nothing. It seems to be a bit of a lottery. We did burley up but they do still have to be around for it to be effective. Just using squid on size 6 bait holder hooks. Give it a go there. Usually reliable.

good luck.

although it has been a long while

I always had plenty of joy with a length of straw or wall plug on a long shanked hook. Maggots always work too. Usedto set that up 4/5 feet behind a burley cage, generally on very light line. I rememberthat Anzac day seemed to be about the time they were thick, the bonus was, usually got a few good sized Gardies as well. The old Ocean Reef marina on the southern wall always worked for me.

Second the straw on a long

Second the straw on a long shank hook, with the quick retrieve, love watching them chase it down. Probably wait till it cools down a bit, that's when they school in huge numbers of the rock walls. Last winter my dad and myself could have easily bagged out on multiple occasions, but we kept about 10 each and threw all the rest back. My most consistent spots during autumn/winter are the walls at hillarys. You will get them throughout the day, but once the sun sets and if u have a half decent berley slick, they go absolutely crazy, can easily get a fish a cast.

 Seen people at woodmans

Seen people at woodmans point throw burley down with three hooks on the line and in 20 mins ended up with a large white bucket full. They caught hundreds! Small though. Also seen people using fresh maggots at south mole and getting a fish a cast.
