Herring For Bait

 Hello

Been catching so many herring over the past few weeks. Seeing as they dont taste the best once frozen. What are they like as bait?

Fish such as herring and snook etc. have more oil and I believe this is why they don't freeze so well (stand to be corrected).

The same thing makes them great for smoking AND BAIT.
(whole. fillets or butterflyed)

 i have always frozen Herring, still taste ok to me,bit of flour and into the frypan.

how about just the frames? caught a decent amount on sunday but filleted all, pickled some and smoked the rest for lunchs this week. i wrapped the frames up and froze them, heads, guts n all. would it be a waste of time chopping them up for burley or throwing them out for salmon/tailor bait?
