Hillarys help

Hi All

Just wanted some quick tips if possible. Mate of mine just bought a new tub. (Caribbean Belmont 17 foot with 115hp)

We took it out for his first run yesterday and stayed in pretty close 13-15m of water. Just to test it out. Few little pickers around and landed a couple rays but not alot else. Nice day out all the same and although it was pretty flat the Mrs got a bit seasick so we headed back after a couple hours.

Just wanting to know what depths are best for Dhuies, Snapper, KGs etc out of Hillarys?

Baits and rigs. We have some Mcarthys that we will give a crack also but what favourite baits are best?

And also trolling speeds for Macs and Tuna?

(don't want specific spots as we want to plot our own marks and see if we can improve our fish finding/sounding skills ourselves) More rewarding I reckon!

Cheers

The most fish i got from out

Mon, 2011-03-28 12:56

The most fish i got from out there was behind the 3 mile reef to  a depth of about 35 meter, but i couldnt ( or more exactly wanted ) to go out further in my 4.5m boat. But the 3mile is a good starting point. Trolling speed mostly depends on what you troll, lures go from 6- 10 knots ( normally you find a spec for that on your lure box) and skirts I think can go I bit faster than that. A good teaser is an important part of your trolling equipment if you dont have one you should think about getting or making one. They helped me to get tuna on the bite.

Hope that helps a bit

Seb

30m +

Spot on aalfred, Head out a bit further(weather permited) .

I only have a small boat and i try to get out to 25 to 30m to have a good chance of larger fissh.

Try bottom rig's with bait while drifting, try lures while serching for ground(lump's ect) or when you see bait school's.

If you use bait, use fresh caught bait over frozen.

Thanks guys

Yeah we are hoping to get out around the 30+ in the next few weeks if we get a good day. This weekend doesn't look all that flash to take it out that far.

What's your fav Dhuie bait?

Might be worth trying some local jetties for some fresh bait the night before I reckon.

I'm still yet to land one although I hooked a monster (well think it was a Dhuie as the patched pulled up a few) and it spat the hook out off Gracetown over Christmas.

Cheers
