landbased or boat? we need a bit more info Mr Mulloway

I am guessing you are landbased.  If you are fishing beaches and want to cast a 3-6oz lead plus a live bait ie whiting, herring or tailor then you are going to need something that can cast up to 10oz like a saltiga ballistic or shimano tiralejo which arent cheap.

otherwise you could try slidebaiting with a lighter rod

to cast that I reckon 30lb mono is spot on

in that case you can go lighter anything around 10-15kg should do it ......length depending on how fast you want to cast longer further

I have a custom Sabre 8 ft rod for larger bait ( ie tailor ). With this rod i can cast a large bait and sinker with 10kg line.

I also use a 7ft with a baitrunner reel and 8kg line (both rods mono line ) for smaller baits like mullet and boney herring.
