How do I get my mojo back?
I think we discussed something like this recently, but lately I've had the worst run of luck when it comes to fishing or weather. (Yes, I know about the Perth tales of woe) I've been out bugger all over the last month for one reason or another, mainly to do with a lack of fishing motivation. I decided yesterday that I was going to break that and went out of Tantabiddi with all guns loaded for every type of fishing. Tried for spanglies/chinamen/trevs inside the reef on poppers and divers - nothing, went out the back and trolled skirts for an hour - nothing (not good conditions either along with coral spawn), then went to my trusty old trout spot and got so towelled up that I've got braid cuts on my thumbs trying to stop them - result - ping ping ping. Went for a quick dive on the way in a nothing, cursed I reckon. Decided I'd ante up again today and went for a dive with a mate and we managed to find 7 good red crays + (4 undersize and 2 setose good sized females (all returned) and one buck painted - dropped), but took us about 4.5 hours as they were all deep as a result of the lightening. (photos to come)
All in all, my fishing luck has sucked lately and I need to find the love. I'm not sure if its seeing that one good fish, or if I've been spoilt (I know what some of you are going to say) but I just can't seem to break the hoodoo and get out of that rutt. It also hasnt helped that most of my missions are solo efforts. :( I'm going to ante up again tomorrow and get out there, but I just can't make the decision on what I want to fish for and what is going to get the mojo back. I'm sure some of you must know this feeling?
Anyway, thats the end of my ranting, just had to put it out there.
Cheers,
Adam

Only one way to fix it
you have got to release a good fish that you really dont want to. This will appease the fish gods. Good luck Pete

Keep it simple, return to
Keep it simple, return to basics and hit the marina walls for some jacks and tailor on light gear? no boat, no diving, just you and ONE rod and one or two of your fav SP's/lures/bait rigs...sometimes I like going no bait and catching some to start with on lures...always some sense of accomplishment then.

Adam sometimes
I think its as you say the mojo has gone, I know Bob's really a keen fisherman when I met him 12yrs ago, couldn't get out quick enough (weather permitting) then over the years I could see him slowly loosing interest, he blamed me in a nice way, as when he was single, all he had was work, then fishing on the week-end as he couldn't afford much socialing as he was paying maintenance. Honestly it'll come back, just a period of your life that has settled or plained out, believe me it'll come back. You just need the kick in the pants (joking) or that feel for the big one that got away.
Sherbert said you live in fishing paradise, the same (well not quite) when we go to Leeman, weather fantastic, I'd wake Bob and he'd roll over for another hour. Last trip Jan 09 he was abosultely fired up, but the bloody southerlies blew for 25 days. We got out got some nice fish..............He's found the love again, plus I don't get sick anymore, so that helps, as he didn't like to leave me home alone while he went fishing all the time.
Good luck Adam ........... you'll find your mojo again

too much nookie for you mr
too much nookie for you mr Gallash. I think wrassie summed it up. SImple and fun, a light tackle session on queenies or trevs, chase some tuna etc. Take the pressure off or just enjoy the new girlfriend, take her our snorkelling or whatever and when the time comes you will be ready to go fishing. PUshing shit up hill in bad weather and conditions just gets you more frustrated. Different for idiots like me who only get up there once or twice a year, but a month off for you is nothing if the weather sucks.
Still, how you can't hookup to a billie up there at the moment stumps me!

I know the feeling well Adam
Down here I have run into weed, wind and daylight saving. On the days I can go land based I head off mid-afternoon and generally go home for dinner before the real run starts on dark. It's fuggin dark at 8:30 or later and the missus worries if I stay out too long as I fish on my own mostly. Consequently I have caught nothing of any substance for a while and often I wounder whether it's worth the effort.
The thing that keeps me going is the dog loves the run and I am meeting a number of interesting people along the way. Shit! The week before last I travelled all the way up and didn't put a line in the water. Just had a couple of beers and a chat.
Things will improve mate. That's my belief and I am sticking to it. May not fish this weekend due to a pulled rib DAMMIT!
Cheers, Vince

lol Simon
Cheers guys (n gal). Hopefully it will turn around. Went for a jack session in the marina the other night (Thursday last week) and got 2 runs, both of which went straight to the rocks and snagged me up. Wasn't much fun tying bimini's in the dark so gave that up after an hour.
Strangely enough Simon, the marlin have been pretty quiet since you left. Theres been the random one caught, but even Gatesy has been struggling.
Oh well, tomorrow's another day, hopefully things will turn around and I'll find that fish that gives me the excitement back. :)

I wish I could say that the spanglies, trev's and trout are waiting for me tomorrow behind Rotto but I have more chance of banging Miranda Kerr...
Hopefully though there is some mackerel, yft and dolphin fish action to be had (still dreaming)

MOJO
mate i know how you feel, allthough i have had a pretty good run of late, i had a shockng start to the barra season. I know you know becauswe you were with me, i was having the worst luck, braid bedding in on itself (due to my own half assed effort putting it on the spool) resulting in lost barra on popper and then I backed it up with another lost fish about 5 minutes later on bait. I dropped so many fish early in the season and good fish too, including that metery on SP landbased. All of that resulted in a LOW mojo on the mojometer
What made it worse was the fact that everyone else around me was catching quality fish and often those fish were attributed to by me. Dont get me wrong i was still stoked for them, just dissapointed in myself.
What i did to pull myself out of the slump:
As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, i slowed it down a little, checked all my gear without rushing, double checked every knot, relaxed and just enjoyed it. Next trip things really turned around, in the first 5 minuted we had a double hookup on barra and all of a sudden the little things that were going wrong before wernt and the reslut was a few more quality fish (including my first metery)
All it takes is that one good fish and a backward step. Take a break and dont turn fishing into work mate, you live in paradise, enjoy it.
Let your cuts heal, check and service all your gear, look at photos of awesome captures and trips gone by and the next time it is glassy out there put the boat on the water and fly out to an old trusty spot for some bread and butter fishing with the outboard screaming flat out; then
your mojo will return!

bottle
Sounds like you need a break. How is the golf going of late? Failing that i'd try a bottle on a beach with a line in the water with a good mate.

I hear ya brother. Know
I hear ya brother. Know exactly how you feel. Managed to get out once over the past two months and the one time I did get out it was a bit of a dissapointment.
Weather, work, crap tides, more work, more shitty weather... just been going on and on and on. Feels like it's been forever since I caught a fish let alone something decent.
I compensate by blowing just about ever cent I earn on fishing gear to make myself feel better. That way when I do manage to get out I've got heaps of bling new toys to try out :)
Looking forward to good times, gotta find the mojo again.

Love the barra inspiration
Love the barra inspiration guys...That's gotta help eh?
Harden up Ads.
"tying biminis in the dark" on a Jack Marina mission...Mate that's half the problem. WTF is with that? Won't a half decent albright do? Tie extra rigs at home. Sounds like over complication to me...KEEEP IT SIMPLE and KEEP IT TIGHT. BACK TO BASICS for you mate....

lololol.going fishing and not catching anything is a lot better than not fishing fullstop. the only thing keeping me sane is this site.was suposed to travel the mere 3hours to the coast today for a fish .but the roads are closed due to rain.will be spooling up my new 80 wide tonight and continue to dream about gamex and the barra that i was suposed to be catching tomorrow.
why dont go and catch a few whiting down town beach then take them out to tantas tomorrow for bait .or just chuck on a big piece of stinky flesh and land a shark or ray or shovely of the beautiful sandy beach which is just down the road .
if not go down the bottlo and buy yaself acarton of harden the f!@#$k up and skull half HAHAHAHA im going crazy i badly need to wet a line .think i might just head dowmn to the shit farm and toss in a line im bound to catch a few blindies
always in it just the depth that varies

yeah Dreamy...karma
But I reckon Wrassinator has it right, time to try something different from usual.
If you're fishing solo anyway, one of Albee's kayaks could be the go, in the gulf and the creeks, looks like fun. don't know how many dollars though.

Poor Buggar
Mate was over their last week with Goatch and Wurthy, had to fix CWURTHY down at the Marina then went for a fish to try her out. Managed to raise 2 Marlin I dropped mine then copped SHi..... from Goatch, changed tackle to 15kilo outfits and started cleaning up on a school of GT,s this was good fun. Will hopefully catch up in next couple of weeks as we have to do some more work on CWURTHY before GAMEX.
Cheers Boozehag

We have all had the bad run. It can be like a good cricketer
All of a sudden you can't hit a run. As with cricket, surfing, football, fishing is all about confidence. If you start to lost your confidence you start worrying about everything going wrong - and once you do that, it will go wrong.
I know from my experiences that it can all turn around the next time you fish. You just have to remind yourself the next time you head out that you are a good fisherman, you have done this a thousand times before and you are going to catch some cracking fish today.
I guarantee you that it will turn around quickly and after you have caught some good fish again you will be wondering to yourself what the hell was I worried about.

So true #1
Last time we went out - it took us 3 hours before we even caught our first fish. We've had days when we quit after 3 hours, because we had enough. Mind you, last time we DID very try new ground and it was a good distance out. Still; it COULD have turned into something spectacular.
