Hypnotising crabs?

Now here is a topic i was introduced to about 5 years ago. Now what would you say if a mate said to you....."do you know how to hypnotise a crab?" Probably exactly what i said to him something along the lines of "go away, i don't think you are telling the truth" (but i used a lot of expletives to get the same message across! LOL) I was wondering if this was something a lot of people were aware of? And yes...it can be done quite simply..

it works on Koonacks and yabbies.  we used to do it when we were kids.  you just rub your finger from the top to the tail along its back quickly for about a minute.  It somehow temporarily paralises them.

I used to hypnotise chooks

Fri, 2009-11-06 10:36

hold them down on the ground then draw a line in front of them and they will stay there for ever.  Grandfather used to go straight to the chook house when we girls left, used to get told off time and time again, but sister and I still did it.

Bits

Sat, 2009-11-07 13:13

Yep,still got all the fiddly bits.Used to poke a bit of wood about 4-5 inches in diameter in to the sharks mouth so we could pull the hooks out safely then measure, tag and inject them with a dye, twist the wood out of its mouth and release them. The dye shows up like the growth rings on a tree so if you catch a sand bar whaler [thickskin]with a fisheries tag in it don't chuck it back.Cut a 4-6 inch section on spine and freeze it,notify Fisheries shark research dept at Hillarys and they will tell you where to send it and they will give you a T shirt for your trouble.
They cut the spine into thin slices to inspect under a microscope where the green dye had been injected show upgiving them a good estimate of its growth rates since capture

Sandbars

Sat, 2009-11-07 16:56

While fishing up north we had shark research blokes on a few times tagging them from Exmouth as far east as 120 deg east--about half way between Broome and Hedland and down south from Windy harbour up to around Binningup. At different times they come on board all of the shark boats to get a good coverage of the whole of sand bar whalers habitat
