I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Hey
Hey,
If you don't mind me asking (and completely understand if you prefer not to divulge) but what setup and settings roughly were you using when you took that last one of the beach during the day?
It is a great shot with awesome colours that have not been washed out at all.

Hey mate, always happy to
Hey mate, always happy to help and offer advise.
1st thing and most important above all is time of day. Sun has to be above or close to. So between 11am-1pm in summer is the best.
2nd most important is you must have a circular polarizer filter. This will give the sky a rich blue and cut through the glare off the water and add contrast.
3rd is shoot as low iso as possible 100-200 is the best.
I was using a canon 50d and one of my fav lenses 17-55 f2.8 IS

I only shoot sunsets,
I only shoot sunsets, sunrises and if its days like that last picture middle of the day for that summer paradise look. Best time for sunsets is just after the sun dips under the horison and same goes for sunrises. No harsh lighting and the rich colours in the sky come out. Here is a good example of both...
For this shot i was originally facing the sun out on the horizon that had just dipped down under the horison at sunset and didnt realise that behind me all the colours were comming out. lucky i had Lisa with me and she yelled out " look behind you" This is the special time and it only lasts 15min max...
