Jig Fest off Cape Nat
Went out for another fish yesterday. Had Honsu down from Perth and Clint and Dave on board. Todays plan was to get a few dhuys early and then head deep and search for some nannys. Was to be a jig only day also.
Got to my dhuy spot at 7.30am and it wasn't long after that we had two on board. Dave caught the biggest which bottomed out a pair of 30lb boga grips. It was a new PB for him caught on his favourite Dawia jig.

Just as we were leaving Harro and crew turned up. Decided to push on and catch up with them out wider.
Fished a few spots in the hundreds with not much luck besides a couple small pinks and a shark.
Harro decided to go deeper and we decided to keep looking around where we were.
After about half an hour got a call from Harro saying he had found a good school of nannies so we headed out to where he was.
On the way out we spotted a water spout that looked quite spectacular. Was a little slow getting the camera out and got the shot just after it started breaking up.

When we arrived we could see the boys on Harro boat were on. First drift for us resulted in a triple hook up on jigs.
A few more drifts and we bagged out. Honsu managed a nice pinky as well.

Decided to give one more spot a go on the way home that Lamby had said he was getting some YTK and sambos on.
This turned out to be a good move as the next hour turned out to be a hot little jigging session with sambos, YTKs and one SBT caught.
After this we headed home. It was a top day out with all fish except the shark caught on jigs. Can't wait to do it again.

Not sure at Dokies place,
but we didn't get much change out of a cartoon of Peroni's at Harro's mansion.
Only because we cryvack the fillets and it takes a little longer, = ( standard excuse to wifey )

Sometimes the filleting
is as much fun as the catching. Especially if your mouth is drooling over the fillets in front of you.
Got to love the outdoor life (and excuses to the Mrs).

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Been using jigs around the 100g mark for the dhuys which have been coming from 50 odd metres and 200g jigs for the nannies which have come from 120m-180m.
Clint was using a 10 inch McArthy plastic with an 8oz jig head for the nannies. Worked really well.

next time you might have to pre-tie your rigs so you can actually get a line in the water before your crew hey?
Very courteous skipper

A good deckie
would ensure the skipper's outfit was ready to go and baited before each drop.
I can remember that was one of my tasks when I was a decky.

The skipper wasn't a bad guy
My experience would indicate that the first bait down will often be the one that hooks up immediately (Note to charter boat fisherman). Why should the skipper play second fiddle to the deckies? I was the decky and that's what he wanted, no problem. There were rules on the boat and one was to hold you own.

It's all good mate
just having a laugh.
As we know all boats are different, skippers have there own little rules and personally as a decky i'm happy to help out where ever i can.
TBH rigging wise i'm not sure if i'd let others tie my rigs for me, there's some shifty buggers out there
Back on subject, was a sick day and can't wait for the next one

Great sashimi, I first tried
Great sashimi, I first tried it at Nobu in Melbourne with a marinade of soy, garlic & a hint of lime juice I think. Was amazing Neels and has been my 'go to' with it ever since & no complaints so far.
Never cooked it & wouldn't do so as I know it wouldn't be to my tastes, Jamie you have set the challenge for my dog considering he was chewing the back out of the carcasses from the last lot I wonder how he would like a cooked fillet
