Submitted by saltwater charters on Thu, 2010-10-28 18:14
Hi Everyone, Finally got all the passwords right and now ready to go. We are definately ready for the upcoming Sambo Season and I,m keen to get out there this weekend to see if they have moved in yet. Weather looking good. Being late notice, if you want to get out either Sat or Sun you can for $180 with all the trimmings[bbq brekkie and lunch]. Look forward to meeting up with some new mad fishos.Give Craig a call 0427280770 to get you on. Thanks. Happy Fishing

Have been a few sambos at Hillarys but a couple of men in grey suits hanging around[bronzies]. Maybe a shark trip needed to thin out numbers???Ive got the pot winch going. would that be a pe6 or 8 combo?. Were a couple of sambos on smaller wrecks around barges.Barges best bet for aj's, Big skippy and smaller sambos

How many guys do you take on
How many guys do you take on the boat, how many jigging at a time and how big is the boat.....sorry about all the questions.....
Was out in my little tug a few weeks ago and only rat sambos and a few nice ambers, but PE2 stuff. Hard to find weather suitable for the little tug on the weekends, hence the charter a good option, but not so interested in going shoulder to shoulder with 20 other punters all using PE8.

On the sambo jigging trips,
On the sambo jigging trips, theres never more than 8 ppl jigging at any one time. You just rotate and and much less tangles. Not really a problem as most people are too buggered after 2-3 fish anyways, so if you're keen you're still jigging 90% of the time :p

there were some horse sambos
there were some horse sambos and other unstoppables at hillary's last week before this shit weather. Yes some noahs as well but my best sambo went 45lb and ambo went just under 30lb. Learn't a valuable lesson though, don't jig 50lb tuffline and crank up the drag ++ ping!!! Some nice PE6 going on the blue heaven before next trip.,

Always an excuse for a new
Always an excuse for a new combo Adrian! Ben got bricked on pe5 last week. I think it was a combination of hooking up too close to the barge and possibly some suspect girly drag settings so he didn't stretch those bingo wings. I will drop you a line in about a fortnight when I am back up to head out there.

the Octo type jigs are better for snaps and other demersals, and yes a sambo will go em, but a knife style jig is the way to go for sure. I use taikaburas up here in Karratha and they do slay some demersals that just wont resist them.

When the sambos are biting
When the sambos are biting you can probably use anything, but they do respond to mech jigging the best.

You may need to eat beans
You may need to eat beans for a few years, but at least with the gear, you just need to invite deckies out that have more than enough combos for the skipper to borrow at least one, hehe.

Well, we buzzed the charter
Well, we buzzed the charter boat to check out the FW boys and certainly made out Hookt in his hat, saw Honsu all bent up on something big and hlokk up front of the baot.
We had very few fish on the sounder compared with 2 weeks ago, but still hooked up most drifts, and my young bloke got his first amber on jig unassisted, which was great. Goodz will post some piccies.
Noticed you boys fished about 0.5-1 km away from the north barge a few times (early and late), toward Rotto......did yas get anything there?
We made a quick dash to the outer barge with just1morecast and whilst we had some good spws on the sounder, did not have a touch.
Nice day, around 15 or so fish between the 3 of us and 1 sharked right at the end so we left, all ambers, a couple kept for dinner. Fish and chips tonite were excellent!
Had a quick swim at Eagle Bay on the way home.....nice.
