Jurien Bay or Busselton/Dunsbro' in Mid-November??

Hey all,
New to the site but I was just wondering if I could pick all your fishing brains for an upcoming fishing trip...
Me and a mate are soon to get our RST and intend to mark this momentuous occassion by hiring out a boat and doing some offshore fishing in either Jurien Bay or down south.
I'll be keen for some bottom fishing and trolling too (hopefully), so where would you guys recommend at that time of year (fishing+weather wise)? What type of fish are we looking at getting around then?
Bearing in mind that we would have just got our RST's we probably wont be too keen on going very far offshore!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers guys,
Justin

Jurien Bay is good fishing
Jurien Bay is good fishing that time of year but with a bit of swell it's not the best place for a new skipper. South passage I would say no for someone with little boating experience, north passage is better but the swell does still roll in......Busselton would be safer I think

Cool thanks mate I'll bear that in mind, I've never actually been to Jurien Bay - so there is no marina or sheltered boat ramp in Jurien is there?
What fish can u get in busso around then?

jurien bay
it does have a good ramp and marina
you dont have to go outside the reefs to get good fish as there is plenty of ground to fish.your best bet would be to get hold of a few marine charts and check out the reefs and surrounds.
wherever you go dont be affraid to ask the local sea rescue for any tips, they are usually helpful
south passage definately a no go for a newby can be verry tricky as the reefs are verry shallow and the swell can come in big

Must agree

Leemans (35klms north of Jurien Bay) not bad for new boaties (in shore), like Jurien, plenty of fishing inside the reef usual fish even on the rare ccassion caught dhuie/mackerel, can anchor up, if got tinnie, can also go to LA (big bay) fish inshore, launch from beach (4x4), see tinnie's out there southerly blowing a gale. Launching can be tricky with bigger boats, but if you've got a tinnie, pretty easy, we're thinking of getting tinnie, leave up there.
But we've found going up that time of year the southerly's blow. But cray season is on 15/11 and can still go out and do pots before it blows.

Jus, They have a very good
Jus,
They have a very good marina and sheltered boat ramp. If you want to fish inside the reef around the islands it will be safe for you. It's only if you are going outside of the reef when it can be tricky. Both passages have channel markers.

Busselton
Justin go to Busselton mate lovely in November just starting to warm up. There is a new Marina easy to launch boat in all weather conditions, plenty of fish activity heating up now right through the summer you dont have to go far to catch a feed also the night life would be firing at local pubs. Thats where I'd be heading if I were a young bloke.

Cool cheers guys,
Yeah was just thinking about doing more inshore fishing so might have to look into those inshore reefs - what fish are we looking at getting? Any chance of trolling for macks or tuna?

you can
get mackies trolling the inside reefs and the back of the islands in jurien (never tried but have seen results) tuna are generally outside the main reef where it gets deep
various types of fish from whiting through to big sambos including dhu pinkys and baldies ,all only a few miles from the marina

Thanks Faulkners'! sounds
Thanks Faulkners'! sounds like a plan....i think the possibility of a mack or two will always do it for me!
where would i get marine charts of the jurien bay area? (or anywhere in that case)
Do u know what methods/setups work for this area? Jigging for sambos? Soft plastics?
Most of my bottom fishing experience was gained by our annual trips to kalbarri where we'd use a whole squid on a couple of snelled 4 or 5/0's, could i use a similar setup u reckon?

no spots
on the inside of the main reef only out deep from south passage
you can get marine charts in most tackle stores just ring around
same rig would work for bottom bashing
if you go out north passage you will see some reefs in about 20 mtrs we have caught some good fish there
