Jurien FADs Launch Dec 7 2010 with new pics

Hiyas,

I was lucky enough to get a ride up to Jurien With Peter and Rhyss from the PGFC this morning. We met Whitey from Jurien Seasports on his boat, his deckie Matt, Jurien local and PGFC member Brad and Fisheries officer Adam there as well.

There was little swell but more wind, the conditions were fine in the 56' westcoaster, but probably would've been pretty ordinary on a trailer boat. We started at the Southern end of the strip, Launching Seasport, working up to the PGFC FAD and then finally the RED FM FAD in the North. We did a little bit of trolling in between the launches, with just one solid BZZZZT, probably a very lucky Striped or Yellowfin Tuna.

The coordinates ala iPhone;

Seasports: 30° 26.435 S 114° 37.748 E
PGFC:       30° 20.379 S  114° 36.075 E
RED FM:    30° 13.374 S 114° 34.028 E

The coordinates from chart;

Seasports: 30° 26.28 S 114° 37.66 E
PGFC:       30° 20.182 S  114° 36.14 E
RED FM:    30° 13.177 S 114° 33.91 E

FAD

Tue, 2010-12-07 21:00

Hi all

As I understand it, a FAD will provide somewhere for fish to aggregate.....so, what's the etiquette for fishers when fishing around them?

I imagine that they're in deep water, so you would be drift fishing, but is there a boat limit around them or does it become a free for all...especially once reports start coming in of fish being caught around them?

We're heading up to Jurien for the Easter long weekend and I'd be keen to check them out...thanks for the coordinates Till.

regards

rusty...

A big thanks to the team

A big thanks to the team that helped deploy the Jurien Bay FADs yesterday, especially Rhyss and Peter from PGFC and of coarse Jamie. The deployment went off without a hitch. 6 hours from departing the Harbour we were back home.

REDFM 208m (104F) deep 25.4NM WNW from Jurien Bay Marina

PGFC  230m (115F) deep 23.1NM  W from Jurien Marina

SEASPORT 212m (106F) deep 23.2NM WSW from Jurien Marina

The FADs are approximately 6.5NM appart,

Please remember NO MOORING on the FADS,

Enjoy

Cool

Good work Whitey!

See you and Mat up there for a few charters and Turkeys in 2011.

When will these FADs start gathering some serious fish around them and what can I expect to catch?

For anyone who hasn't been on Whitey's charter....you're missing out BIG time.
