Kayak Fishing in the Pilbara?

Anyone in Karratha got the good oil on Yak fishing?  Ive been chasin Bream around the Swan river for 2 years, and I will be relocating to Karratha in dec 09 with work....Are there any guys up that way who yak fish that might be keen for a paddle around the creeks etc?

Be carefull kayaking around the creeks, even on neap tides you might struggle against the current.

Yeah, figured that might be an issue, without seeing the area, out the front might be the way to go im guessing...a recon in december will be on the cards...cheers!

I do alright in my yak. Not that keen on the creeks though. If you time it with the tide its no problem.

Thanks for the reply mate.  I have a Hobie outbackfish SUV model with the feet paddles, would it be a better option to venture a few hundred meters off the coast trolling etc instead?  Obviously there is a need to monitor the crazy tides up that way, I have a bigger boat for the real stuff, but I was hopin to get the yak out a bit up that way, you have a crew or you venture out on your own up there??

I go solo, mostly I like to just do my own thing. I have been here for 8 months and there still lots of places i haven't explored. Heaps of options up this way. Last week i got a 96cm queenie and 95cm mackerel.

Even on springs the current cant be as strong as the Avon

Mon, 2009-09-28 19:31

Paddlers know. If you have not done it  and I have I see no problem with even the nastiest of currents, but have a option like an anchor. Would happily paddle in the current if I was fit (not). I am not sure about the efficiency of the laser drive and much prefer a paddle.

Just also be aware of the very rare but somehow present purses with teeth. Have been spotted and I think they are mostly logodiles but you never know.

Hope this helps
