Landcruiser querry
Just thought id throw my questions up to see what peoples thoughts are.
Friend has a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser Troop Carrier(bench seats in the rear) Diesel 4.2L.
Done 350000km.
Is in immaculate condition, front and rear insides still has all the linning and covers. Outside no hint of rust. Has spent most its life doing holiday road trips away and a bit of caravan towing. When not away touring, it is a city run around car.
He is looking for around $15000.00 for it.
Was considering upgrading my current 94 Hilux, and would like something that has a fair bit more power to tow the 5.8m Ally. Have settled on that if i am to upgrade i would like a troopie. Dont want to spend the $$$ for the new V8's though.
So i guess what i am asking is, is this a good deal?
Is 350000km to much? How many more km's you think i could get out of it?
Could you do an engine rebuild to extend its life?
If anyone else has a troopie similar how would you rate them for towing my 5.8m ally? Like say to tow to Exmouth ;)
Any advice would be welcome as i am still UMing and AHing.
Thanks Buz.

Motor
With the motors history provided it was serviced regularly it should get over the 5000.000 before needing a rebuild.
Haven't heard of any shonky rebuilds on a 4.2 so why the need to go for a V8.Cannot expect the rebuild to go anywhere near half the cost of a V8 installation job

Awesome, good hearing some
Awesome, good hearing some of these reliable reports on the 4x4. Just didnt know at what point you do an engine rebuild on an engine.
As for V8, i meant i dont want to buy one of the new troopies that have the 4.5L V8 turbo diesel engine. All of them are still over the $35000.00 mark.
Thanks.

Thought thats what you thought. Definitely wouldn't go down that path.
Could probably get a younger 4.2L from the wreckers if need be.

You about halfway there.
You about halfway there. 26-27000 for the conversion once you add the dual batteries, heavy duty radiator etc.

Rebore
Don't know if the 4.2 has sleeves like the Nissan 4.2 or like the old 2H 4 litre ones where they would just rebore them and go oversize pistons.
Either way,its still going to have heaps of miles left in it.

had an 86 troopy
that done over 500000 and was still running sweet but that was a 4l the 96 troopy i have now that s done 290 000 has had a few problems , head cracked in three spots had to replace with new one and spun a harmonic balancer which stuffed the end of the crank , i payed 10 000 for my 96 and i asm looking at the moment at upgrading and the prices i have been seeing i think 15 000 is a bit steep for a 94 with 350 000 on the clock i have seen 98 models with less ks than that for around 12 000

BUY A JEEP.
On a serious note, a diesel will go way over those Kms. Regular filter changes are the key.
The good thing about this one is you already know the car. That alone could be worth a little extra.
