Mining Help!
Hi everyone,
Well ive tried my hardest to try and get my foot in as a dump truck driver and a few other various jobs. Driving is prodominently what i want to do as i actually enjoy driving. I have previously done a 7month stint as a drillers offsider in an open cut mine and did that purely to use as a resume build up to say "hey ive worked in the mines" but this hasn't given me any heads up in becoming a driver.
So i guess im looking for a helping hand if there is any, im 22 and have a mortgage so im willing to work and as my referees will say, i am a hard worker and work to get what i want. I know driving the cats aren't hard, so i KNOW i can do it. Sometimes i think im too young but i do here of 18-20yo people driving them and that bugs me especially when i have the right mind frame in terms of working hard to pay off my house.
If there's anyone that can help me that would be great and Adam if this content is not permitted i understand delete this thread or just say so and i will.
Cheers
Sha

Fairly sure you need to get a qualification first, not sure if you do that throught the company or TAFE, might be handy to look into that if you havn't already

Not to sure that's the answer most of the cases ive heard from other's are just apply apply apply. Not many qualifications for a dumpy though i think it's just the HR licence which i have, different if i was applying for a boiler maker or fitter i think.

You really got your heart
You really got your heart set on Dumpys? Might be better off getting Fork and EWP and getting in as a TA or Trainee Operator. I know Uniteds have spots available. FIFO to Port Hedland.

I know i shouldn't be
I know i shouldn't be choossy dodgy, but from previous experience in the pit made me really want to be a dumpy. Plus most traineeship pay wont help me pay my mortgage. So i need more a less a full time position. I think i have all pre reqs being hr, marcsta, first aid, blue card, cert 4 occ health n safety. Just dont have that initial 6months minimum dump experience. Which is hard coz no one really has a spare dumpy hanging around to just practice on haha

Fair enough. Does depend how
Fair enough. Does depend how much you need the work. I know a few TA's that are on pretty good coin. I got out of the away work and pulling the stuff out of the ground. Now work in town (Hedland) and watch it go onto the ships. Double the money I was getting FIFO. Thats from an operators position to TA wage.

I've had the same problem, I have tried for a job as a dump truck driver about 20 times, but always get knocked back because I don't have the experience driving them :(

What I did was drove 7hrs
What I did was drove 7hrs out to ravensthorpe and put up signs for work wanted and a list of my tickets which wasn`t much at the time. Seemed like a long shot at the time but I got 3 job offers they were poor money(in mining standards)but Ive upgraded jobs and upskilled and 2 years later Im earned pretty big money. It wont work there now but if you went to kalgoorlie or the pilbara it may work once ya get ya foot in the door ya set! I applyed and applyed and never heard back later this year things will be booming as some big projects are starting and it will be easier to get in

try doing a course
try doing a course through companies like RMS who do dumptruck training, being a drillers offsider u already should have hr licence and all the other requirements or working on a mine site so u shouldnt have too much dramas just keep aplying for work to all the mining contractors

Sha Try the big Mining

Try the big Mining Contractors like BGC, Macmahon etc.
BGC are looking for Dump Truck Operators at the moment.
Have a look at the BGC Construction website:

You can also try Richards Mining Services - at an old job we had them employing and training drivers for us...

I work on a large mining
I work on a large mining operation, and MACA being our contractors they have to do their Simulation training in Perth before they can even get a look in. Cost a bit but you will get it back in no time.

most places these days put
most places these days put on trainee operators (either mobile or fixed plant ) So the best bet would be to contact apprenticeships Australia mate
Sometimes companies will be able to carry someone unqualified through in a position but i know the company i work for would prefer someone with experience. Saying that we get trainee's every year, this is probably the easiest way for you to get a start in the game mate
bite the bullet, it might not pay as much in the short term but it will get you in the door and is a realistic goal, will set you up well for the future
