Latest bang bang trip

Spent six days last week travelling around the Victoria River District knocking off some of beach kids friends.

Tally for the week was 3 pigs, 2 dogs, 3 bull camels and 76 donkeys.

Was hoping to find a young camel for meat but no joy this trip.

Here's a few pics.

there a mongrel feral and do some serious damge

Camels are estimated at > 1 000 000 head and again they do some serious damage

not forgetting horses, cattle etc.

If Australian's wernt so blinded by BS psyschology in eating ferals then we could use this market. The meat is clean and top notch, disease free, but we gota eat steak and three veg......

Kanagaroo meat is one of the cleanest in the world but it's only pet food, what a waste

Mobs of bush tucker which we also ignore.......

For real

Thu, 2012-07-26 17:49

Is this a serious question?

Bull camels walk straight through fences looking for water/females.

Donkeys compete with cattle for feed and will hold cattle off the water points as the weather heats up. 400k's from a sealed road makes the pet food option moot meglodon.

They're also a declared invasive species, just like carp mate.

Thu, 2012-07-26 17:56

Meglodon you didn't direct your question towards the Pigs? They are all an introduced species that damage our Australian environment. Why is there a difference in your view?

Edit- you guys beat me to it lol. I was waiting for someone to raise a stupid point.

I think it was a fair question from megolodon, just wanting to know why they were killed and he got a fair answer, all good, play on.

do head out when contracted to cull camels which do get turned into pet food. No market for the donkey meat but what would still end up as pet food when possible.              the health department (meat board) control the meat that can be sold for human consumption. A lot of this meat is disease free but the processing of the meat within the regulations makes it a unviable option. As for living off the land nothing wrong with Kangaroo, Emu, Crocodile, young goat etc, It's a shame to see potential food go to waste, as for removeing feral animals from Australia bring it on, As for the feral humans we have can we do the same.

Um....... no market because Australians dont want to eat.

No other reason really......

Very easy to fix the problem

Spent years living / working / swagging it out bush and we ate it as it was class meat.

Around the camp few others were interested.....

Muslims for one eat camel

Thu, 2012-07-26 20:02

Muslims for one eat camel meat, and there are 100's of other cultures that exist in Australia, that may well like Camel meat. IMO it should atleast be converted to dog food or put to another use.

as said above the economics

Thu, 2012-07-26 20:21

as said above the economics often dont support it. But maybe theres an opportunity for you to have a go!

Muslims must eat halal meat that is slaughtered in a particular way, they can only eat this if there is no alternative but starvation so that throws that out the door.

Once upon a time there was a use for foxes, rabbits and possums (NZ) for the skins/fur.

Stupid greenies put an end to that, now Akubra IMPORTS rabbit skins-what a joke! Now the only people who shoot those animals, do it for fun including me.

So whats the problem? The feral doesnt care if its being used or not and if the existing pet food processors could make a buck out of it why wouldnt they?

Highway 1

Thu, 2012-07-26 21:00

Bruce these guys haven't been shot right next to highway 1. Its a major logistical exercise to get there, involving 400 kilometers of travel down a remote dirt road, and then venturing on the quad bike into 'paddocks' that only have occasional rough tracks, most travelling on the quad is done over rock and spinifex strewn plains. If it could be utilised then I'm sure someone would be making a quid out of it.

Seen Pros take freezer trucks

Thu, 2012-07-26 21:25

out toward Warburton on the WA border last year when they were doing a camel cull, about the only way to make money. Guys who use to own a local butcher shop would head up to cue once a year for kangaroo, I've been to the same frams to round up goats for sale at stock yards. For guys who head out for a shoot would still need to have approval to supply their kills for the pet food suppliers. there's money to be made but for most not viable. Should have a bounty put on every feral animals head, even a small one too cover the cost of rounds.

 You're out of line coley.

Its in general discussion, and it's no different to a dead fish or 2, and much better than an esky shot. Not only that, but they are introduced pest/vermin.

I personally would like seeing more of this kind of hunting on here, and the day it is an "explicit" image, will be a sad day for society

Edit: mr x beat me to it.

probably the reason most kids

Thu, 2012-07-26 20:46

probably the reason most kids think meat grows on a foam tray with clingwrap covering.

While it may be a massive shock to many city folk, country kids grow up slaughtering with their dads/uncles and destroying feral pests.

They generally dont become psychopaths from witnessing this stuff.

As opposed to the other extreme of a city kid who has never even seen a dressed carcas let alone an animal slaughtered and learns about firearms by playing a shootem-up game on PC.

And what may also be a shock, is that in nature there is NO peaceful death for a wild animal as in a Disney movie.

Animals die by being killed violently by another predator, or maybe starve/die of thirst. They dont get old and live out their twilight years under a shady tree. They get slower and get eaten.

I have no problems with this whatsoever. The fact that invasive and destructive animals have been taken out of play in the quickest manner possible can only be a good thing. Well done Big John. Agree with Scotto, what's the difference between one dead animal and another? Wonder if the knockers here invite the mice and rats into their homes and make them feel warm and fuzzy on a cold winters night. Fair Dinkum you blokes.

Biggest problem

Fri, 2012-07-27 13:10

Biggest problem with the bigger calibres is getting a property that's large enough, and containing large game.

Wouldn't mind getting a 375H+H in the safe before I leave here for Perth, but not sure. Lots of hoops to jump through these days.

I'm heading over east in a couple of months for a crack at Sambar, should be different to everything up here that's for sure.

Challenge

Fri, 2012-07-27 13:41

Yeah, love the challenge of stalking/hunting animals like pigs.

Those three pigs were taken over three days of stalking along creek banks. Hard going but very rewarding when it all comes together.

It is great fun cruising around on the quad culling, but the actual hunt/stalk side of things is where its at for me.

Good luck with the weekend, hope you bag a deer (and eventually catch up with those pesky goats).

Coley is by no means out of line scotto.

I have no issue with pics of dead fish etc, putting knives into live fish myself and whatnot but I really dont like pics of dead animals and I could never shoot one, feral or not. Which also means I dont really like seeing ones shot and dead on the ground, but thats just me and I understand plenty of others get enjoyment out of it which is good for them. I dont mind guns themselves but i'd rather shoot a tree or some other target and I also reckon these pics belong on some animal shooting/gun site rather than a fishing one.

Hope you all dont get your knickers in a knot from my opinion, i'm NOT criticising what John has done in shooting the animals, i just dont want to see it!

The clowns bagging a post like this have no idea and have obviously never spent any time in the bush ,sort of lines up with the Carp post , I love catching and killing them but they are a feral species as well which does nothing but bad for our environment , shoot to kill and have a fat time !!!!!!!

FFS some of the comments here

would not be out of place with the loonies commenting on Perth Now.

If it's feral and a pest KILL IT (if the law allows of course).

righto mate

Thu, 2012-07-26 20:40

so next time im fishing ill just kill 50 or 60 blowies and just leave them on the jetty because they're a pest and no-one eats them in Australia?

I'm not having a crack at Big John, if he likes hunting then he likes hunting. But I would rather not see shot animals on a site called Fishwrecked. (And no, I'm not vegetarian/ green peace/ tree hugger)

blowies may be a pest, BUT

Hey Fellas ,

Thu, 2012-07-26 20:37

That's the beauty of a site like this , have your say and your opinion but at the end of the day we are never gonna have a unanimous opinion about a topic like this on what is essentially a Fishing Website , way to go Big John and good on anyone having a different opinion , but keep it above the belt and civil boys , I personally don't mind the kill shots but I can see how others might find it not to there liking , flip side is I guess most of us pretty our fish pics up before we post them , ie we clean the fish up before we take a photo , if someone was to post a pic of a Yellowfin straight onto the deck when the hook has hit a major bleeder in his mouth , would anybody make a comment about that  ???

Personally I dont see how a few guys voicing a different opinion makes them idiots. More to the point how you say its full of them around here, when theres been good discussion on valid points which doesnt require name calling or vitriole.

Just keep it on topic and not personal, cheers.

We should actually be paying

Thu, 2012-07-26 21:00

We should actually be paying [government that is ! ] these guys to do this . If only they realised , it would be saving us the tax payer in the long run . Be a good way to get some young guys who have nothing in way of employment up north into a job . These ferals should all be exterminated for the good of our great country .

When you see someone like BJ showing the large majority of us who don't mind this stuff... his hunting pics all you have to do is don't open the blog up.

Bruce when have blowies been declared a pest, a nuisance but not an introduced species like the ones big John has been erradicating

Where I work it's free range goats as far as the eye can see, the buggars destroy everything what they don't eat they trample

@leemo that's what I like about this place lol

Nice work

John, there a good size them pigs, surprised not to see the Dog??

I remember the uncle having the massive back shed full of fox furs drying ,this is going back 15 years, one year he took us out past pinjarra out in the hills to the apple orchid were he and dad spend a few hours knocking off 28 parrots that were destroying the apple farms!

The uncle has a massive collection of high powered rifles, room full of photos furs and a massive bullet collection.

Shooters and fishers.  Like

Thu, 2012-07-26 21:45

Shooters and fishers.  Like it or not , we are one and the same.  (The green groups certainly see it this way)

No prob with seeing some occasional hunting pics on the site.

As mentioned , the bloody AFL threads go far longer than the fishing ones.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Good Job

Thu, 2012-07-26 21:50

Good job Big John, should be more of it.

Did a bit of it at the experiment farm out of Katherine half a life time ago, anything that wasn't all black, even if it had a white patch 4inches big, shoot it and take a strip of hide including the ears and tail plus the white patch to collect the bounty.  They couldn't accept it at the abs because it wasn't killed on site and we couldn't afford to round up thousands of cattle spread over thousands of hectares to pick out 20-30 head.

When you have seen the damage these pests can do to the rangelands etc there should be funding and an incentives given to shooters like yourself.

For those that are offended by the pics just watch the news every night and see human bodies strewn about either shot or blown up for no reason other than religion or greed for power, I for one know which I would prefer to see.

Coming from Africa Hunting is in the blood

Thu, 2012-07-26 22:29

But on a fishing site surely this might be seen as a troll, trying to upset a few.

The other non fishing post like footy doesnt have photos like this. So baited a few and thats not what this forum is about. It is a fishing site and I can see were the above comments are leaning.

Ferals IMO need to be culled, but possibly not displayed on a fishing site. JMO.

First

Fri, 2012-07-27 07:16

First time for everything, never been accused of trolling on a website where I've been a member for over six years. My interests have changed a bit since I first joined this forum, with fishing taking more of a back seat to hunting.

I've also posted hunting pics and threads on here previously, with no problems at all. I also believe Adam has no problem with it either.

To the blokes who appreciated the pics, cheers, to those who didn't, you're part of the reason this country is going to the dogs/greens IMO. Chew on that lure.
