Lead Kiln ( Home made )

Hi crew, i had an old compressor tank and finaly worked out what to use it for.

The tank.

I cut of the all the exrta bits and reused the skid's for the feet of the kiln.

Then i got the gas burner and a large camp oven ( pot )

I worked out how to fit these to the tank and started cutting the tank open

A few finishing touches to the door and a coat of high temp paint .

I intend to use this kiln for large melt's of scrap lead to be turned into ingot's.

It will run of a 9kg gas bottle.

I also have an extraction fan to fit to the flu to remove fumes .

It will be used outside as well for ventilation . ( I fully understand the dangers of working with lead )

Cheers Grant .

Hull fixed

Wed, 2012-02-01 20:11

It's been slow on the boat fix (work keeps getting in the way ) Over Xmas i had to strip it and flip it over. There were broken stringers and a few bad spot's that needed to be replaced.

Ive been recording it on the GoPro in time laps, and when im done will post the complete video.

Cheers Grant..

Looks

Looks shit hot mate. Is the flue going to extend through the roof of the shed or is it an outdoors thing?

Outside

Wed, 2012-02-01 20:23

Yeah as Jaime said, I put the skids on as a base so it could be moved with a forklift. I thought if it was still hot and wanted to move it this would be the best and safest way.

I put the pipe (flu) on top to remove fumes. (hot air rises just like a fire place ) But as an extra i have an extraction fan connected to flexable ducting.

The whole kiln goes outside, the ducting slips over the flu and the extraction fan is on the end. (away from the heat ). The fan just takes the toxic fumes away from the work area and into open air.

Also i only do this at my factory in a registered comercial area.

Thanks to every one for the comments.

Ron, i havent thought about sale or hire i just do it for fun and usualy share sinkers with my friends. , my grandfather taught me to make sinkers on an open fire when i was 5 years old and ive been doing it ever since then.

I'm happy to do a deal (not for money) with FW members , i'm not a site sponsor and don't want to breech any rules about selling merchandise.

Normaly i organize a Sat or Sunday , we all help out and make enough sinkers to share , have a beer and a chat .

Cheers Grant
