Light lure rod

Looking for a rod to cast light lures a long distance at whiting, bream etc. specs- about 7', 1-3kg or less, roughly 1-7 gram cast weight. Preferably less than $200 but may go $250 if its worth it. Is there one rod that can be used for soft plastics, crank baits and stick baits? If not hard body rod prefered over soft plastic. Some options i found were daiwa air edge, samaki zing extreme, pfleuger patriatch xtr but dont know what lure type theyre suited to. Any rod suggestions, reviews, advice on lure types for certain rods and your experience with sp and hb rods is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Daiwa Spellbinder....

Sat, 2013-12-28 16:34

...from memory, $210 at Compleat Angler in Rocko...7 footer, 1-4gm cast weight, 1-3kg line class. I'm using 4lb suffix on it and going well with the 2-4gm stickbaits for whiting. I have also used it for fishing softies in the same weight range but have only got herring doing that so can't comment on how it would go for bream!

Is something like a 7' 2-6lb tournament specialist bream good for small hard bodies. It has a parabolic arch which i dont really like but it apparently helps with not pulling trebles out of the fishes mouth.

Abu vanguard, 6'10" 1-3kg, usually $600, in summer sale for $400 come into geographe camping, pretty sure I can get you one for $350. The only true nano rod, the blank is actually made with nano resin not just dipped in it after the blank is made like most rods that claim nano, I nearly bar up every time I use mine. Fuji SIC k guides, awesome rod! Besides that, daiwa black label, bit heavier in the hand, or the Gladiator psyborg, nano (dipped, like most) but has micro guides, witch bream folk love, usually around  $280.     Go the vanguard!

Found some good options by daiwa-

infeet both models

tournament specialist bream 702ulfsoh and 762lfsoh

black label versatile 691mlfs, 6101lfs and 762 mlfs

Or as cheaper options tdx 6101lfs or generation black albino and itchy twitchy

has anyone used any of these and can give a review or can recommend other similar rods- which are best suited to hard body lures and can cast them well, are they capable of stopping the occasonal bigger fish, what is their action/taper like and just their overall performance, value for money and your opinion on them.

thanks

Still not sure

Mon, 2013-12-30 16:23

What makes a good soft plastic rod and hard body rod, i know there are many opinions on this topic but would still like all the info you can give. Or doesnt it matter. I will do a lot of whiting and bream (mainly whiting) fishing on sand flats with surface lures so a rod to suit that style of fishing is first priority and what else can that style of rod do. (If a surface lure rod is stiff and has a fast taper can that also be use for sps and then what type of rod is used for crank baits).

sorry about all the questions just want to choose the right rod for the job or if i can afford it, the rods for the jobs, so that i can cover more techniques

Daiwa black label versatile 691 ULFS

Tue, 2013-12-31 21:45

Been doing some reseach and found that the 6'9", 1/64-1/8 oz, 2-4lbs versatile suited what i was looking for almost perfectly

a review on the rod said it worked great to target whiting on topwater. The blank is fast enough to recover quickly during a really fast, aggressive retrieve style, yet the tip is still soft enough to assist during hookup on a low percentage topwater bite and not pull trebles. And is therefore also able to work sps, vibes and crank baits well. A good all round rod.

ill look around and see if i can get one for a good price.

has anyone else used one of these

Hey mate,
Was looking at similar rods last few days and ended up with the Daiwa Tournament specialist bream 672UL I think it is. 2-4lb line rating havnt used it yet but feels very nice and balanced with a 1000 shimano reel. Feels much better balanced and lighter than the nitro vapour I was looking at even though the nitro is meant to be much lighter.
The rod is very similar to the steez rods, pretty much the sanme butt with the ratchet reel seat and blank.
Btw Compleat angler in rocko has a 12% off rods sale.
