Hi all just wondering if any one had any luck with the mackies over the weekend or today. And how much longer they will hang around for with this weather .

Mackies
Hi guys,
Went out from Mindarie today and picked up a nice 12.5kg narrow banded Mack.
There was a lot of weed about but persistance pays.
Not a lot of bait about but use bright lures. Worked for me.

yep we were out on the ski
yep we were out on the ski out from mindarie this morning, saw you Uncle, recognised the flanno top haha. We only got leaping watsons bonnies too, and a few HUGEE snook that were harassing the bait balls on the edge of the murky water at around 17m. Within the first hour two guys on a centre consol 100m in front of us got a mack in, might've been you BryanK? We hit the water just after 6.30 and was back at the ramp just before 2, was a bloody long, wet day for us. The boat behind us back at the ramp picked 1 up on there way in. Theyre still around obviously, just not the numbers we saw last week.
Might give it another go tomorrow arvo

Trawled behind the 3 mile
Trawled behind the 3 mile this afternoon between Hillarys and Ocean Reef. A lot of bait out there and water temp still hovering around 23 degrees but no mackies for us. We did get one Longtail tuna and one Striped tuna. Not what we were targetting but good fun so close in. Those Longtails do pull hard!

Mine was caught a long way
Mine was caught a long way south of Rotto, and judging by the water temp at the back of Rotto, after having to jump in to untangle a cray pot from the shaft drives, should still be plenty of macs around for a while yet.

Hey Beau
Saw you guys out last thursday on the jet ski. You two were doing it tough. I was in a 5.5m fiber glass cuddy that had the maroon biminy on it.
I doubt if the macki's will be about for that much longer but fingers crossed for all of us.
Keep enjoying the trips guys, and if I see some guys out on a jet ski, I'll make a point of saying hi.

A big one was caught around
A big one was caught around Natto Cape today by people staying with my neighbour, went about 16kg's. Apparently they were swimming some big HP's around the end looking for a Yellow or Blue Fin Tuna or something when it took the lure. Not sure what lure it was, but it caught them all by surprise.
Cheers

Trolled north of Mindarie
Trolled north of Mindarie today but no luck in close. Managed to get some areas without weed, and some areas with a lot of weed. Not fun clearing your lines on a tiller steer by yourself (have to stop the boat and take out of gear or knee the controls).
Managed to pick up a SBT further out though (switched to a skirt to avoid weed).

Fruitless!
Trolled the fads for one tiny SBT (10yo caught it, Stoked!), did get two mahis on bait before mutton birds became diabolical, then got a stripey tuna about 5 miles back of Rotto, then trolled X-Raps, CD mags and the chrome pink Crazy Deep from West End to Parker Point for ZILCH, and then trolled back of GI where we got our fish last week for bugger all as well.

Im guessing this is the most
Im guessing this is the most suitable thread to ask this in at the moment so here is my question.
Roughly how much petrol does everyone use trolling around all day, heading up north (broome) in a month or so and ill be doing plenty of trolling. Trying to work out a rough budget for fuel. Obviously there will be a few different factors so im just after a ball park figure. Motor in a 150hp Honda if that helps.
Cheers

Expect the boat to use
Expect the boat to use around 6L per hr trolling.....When under way at around 20/25 kts allow approx 25-30l per hr
I have the Hire boat in Perth...HIRENGO Boat Hire Business and that has a 150 Yammy 4 stroke which uses that amount,Plus my own boat has a 150 Merc Verado Supercharged which also runs on the same amount...Dont be fooled that any other brand motor is better or worse...They are all around the same...

If you were trolling around 6
If you were trolling around 6 knots i would allow 70-80l a day. As soon as you push a bit faster you move in fuel burn territiory, well I do anyway.
