marine radio gme

Hi guys,
went out this morning and have never had the need to use the radio before as we were in the canals, went to go out of the estuary and the radio would power on but nothing else. had a look under and the wires in the photo came out(the end coming from the unit not the aerial side). we not attached or had corroded, would this be a good reason as to why there was no sound?
Also the metal bit that screws into the back of the unit looks like it has been broken, it holds in place without being screwed in so i think that is ok.

How's your squelch setting? Make sure it's all the way anti clockwise.

no sound
The wires are only sitting in there, made sure it was all the way anti clockwise. No sound at all
