Marine trimmings - under gunwales
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2017-08-28 21:39
Redoing the inside of my boat, any suggestions on marine cloth?? for under the gunwales? How difficult is it to do by yourself? Not too worried on a primo job as its an old boat, but want to tidy it up and make it hardy/washable for fish guts etc.
Any ideas/suggestions and if i do it myself, best way to make it stick?
Having the wiring re-done Wednesday. Have taken the pocket wall off and will install new as well and have put on new pinch weld.
Cheers
Adam

If you're worried about guts n stuff cloth will do your head in!
Quick sand and a coat of your favourite colour ... Problem solved. Way easier to look after and will love you long time!

Sand , acetone
Flow coat. Agree way to go easy to clean looks neat. If you decide on cloth/ carpet ect . Use contact cement ( yellow colour wood glue). Gets you high as kite while doing it:):)

or marine vinyl - can buy
or marine vinyl - can buy from clark rubber in quite a few diff colours (I used grey previously), easy to keep clean and apply with selleys kwikgrip gel (outdoor) which you can get from Bunnings or any hardware (cheap)
apply to both surfaces and wait until it goes tacky to almost dry and stick together - incredibly strong bond

I agree with paint like 2
I agree with paint like 2 pack expoxy or even better flowcoat, the paint would be easiest. Flowcoat is as tough as nails and easy to clean, I'd hate to vinyl it, it would be really hard to get on neatly.

I would clean with a 40grit
I would clean with a 40grit sanding disk, wipe with acetone, then 1st coat white gelcoat and 2nd coat flowcoat, then fleck it with a light grey

Paint
I know how to mask up for paint etc and to prep with sanding etc. Is the paint as easy as buying a spray gun, mixing in bottle with catalyst and applying? Same with the second layer flowcoat?
After pulling off pockets looks like some glassing work to be done as well. :(
