Metro bill fish - water temp

Hi guys,

Appears to be a comparatively warmish current (22-23 degrees) pushing south north of the trench. Historically, how warm has the water been when those very lucky few have raised a couple of marlin in a day off Perth?

Slight chance Sunday's weather be okay and the current makes it down in time?.. fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Sam

Anything over about 21

No hard and fast rules but if you've got water temps over about 21 and find a good temp break I'd be giving it a go.

I have seen it as high as 25 - but it would not be that outlandish to think my unit could be out a degree or two !
- also water temp at the surface can be a bit warmer in calmer conditions (summer)

Just think NIKE and Just Do It

Everyone gets so hung up on asking whats the water temp etc etc that this miss the fact that the fish are out there.
Has been a number raised and caught lately so NOW is the time.
I know of marlin that have been caught in October some years and July others.
It just shows we really know little about their activities off Perth and confirms that you wont catch a fish if your lines not in the water

Put in a solid effort on

Put in a solid effort on Sunday - on the grounds by 530am. Ended up with 0-0-0 woo hoo!

Marked one on the sounder at the start of the trench but was on what we thought was a decent break so continued on (hindsight is wonderful). Spent the morning looking for good water which took us to >2,500m.. Found good warmish water (surface got up to 24.5 degrees) with a few breaks & upwellings but could not raise one. To top off the frustration we spotted one crash some bait 100m off our bow.

In general we had a hard time finding bait. Quite a bit in closer toward fads (quite small) but not alot in what I thought looked like the better water.

kamo king, were you in a bit closer towards the fads? I reckon with hindsight thats where we found some of the better water after searching far and wide..
