Multiculturism in the family
Submitted by Ashen on Wed, 2016-08-10 13:18
With the recent birth of my nephew who is half Irish & half Vietnamese, I've been wondering if other people have a "multicultural family"?
I'm vietnamese and so is my wife. However, I've been in Oz for over 30 years so I'm very aussie, and loving my "meat & 3 veg"! Haha
One of my sisters is married to an Aussie- Filipino. They have yet to have kids.
Another sister was married to an Aussie-Kiwi. They have a daugher who is a very pretty little girl.
My youngest sister is married to an Irish. They just had their first child, a son.
So yes, you can say we have a very multicultural family!
Would love to hear from fellow members and how diverse their family is.

My uncle is Italian and lives in Waroona so I benefit very well from the 10 or so pigs he helps turninto ding snags each year and the best part is they don't really do anything with the ribs so I get bags of them and slow cook em in the smoker.
My cousin and I constantly share recipes and have thought about writing a book called "Ding Food, Skip Food"

Thanks for clarifying, Dale.
Thanks for clarifying, Dale. I googled ding food and most of the images are that of ancient chinese urn things. Thought Andy likes cooking chinese food using ancient urns!! Haha

You said 'multicultural' not
You said 'multicultural' not 'mixed race' haha. I can assure you the Scots are as much an alien culture as the Viets albeit the Vietnamese have far superior food to haggis and black pudding

Dutch, Scottish and French
My late father Dutch, my late mother Scottish. Me born in Holland on my parents second honeymoon (married in WA) to the Netherlands. My fathers side Dutch and has been traced back to the 14th Century. Mums side Scottish, grand parents Scottish with French in their somewhere. Kids are Mexicans, poor things all born in Victoria and first husband has Irish/English heritage.
Came to Australia with my parents when I was 14months old, Mum covered me up as I had the measles from other kids on the ship we came back on. Grew up in East Victoria Park and had fantastic friends, all over Europe and Italy, ate food that wasn't trendy for many many years. Grew up eating curries when I was 2yrs old. My upbringing was multicultrism at its best.

Hi sea-kem
I lived where the Dairy (falkurk dairy, can't spell it) used to be, the house in the front. Loved listening to the horses clip clop down the side drive way coming back from delivering milk. Think the dairy then went to Bentleigh (Masters dairy) Dad knew the original brothers that had dairies farms in Canningvale (now industrial). Left when I was about 10yrs old and went to live in Devenish street till high school then off to Bentleigh High School, after that Mum and Dad sold up and built a house one street from Shelley bridge (wasn't their yet or Leach H'way)
Where the shopping center is with Target in used to be my primary school. Think where Kongs is their used to be a green grocer and they were Italians, Mum used to walk me to school. Apparently I used to sit on the brick fence and watch the world go by. Dad did night school and became a refrigeration engineer at Masters Dairy. Put in a lot of the original cool rooms up and down the coast for the cray fishing industry. Remember him bringing home crates of crayfish (naughty some cackers)
