Few good perch in that lot
Few good perch in that lot
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Great catch mate
I love fishing with live minnows! What do you do with the smaller fish? Probably be good burley mashed up.

....and no its not a firm flesh ! befor its cooked it is but on the chew its a nice flake typ of flesh !

Wellington dam
Go to Wellington dam and fish near the wall on the west side the water is easy to get to and can be very deep.Green and black striped soft plastics replicate the native tiger minnow.Cast long and you will get taken on the sink just about every cast if not on the retrieve.Redfin have massive gobs and I have caught them trolling on minnows at Drakesbrook dam that are the same size as the lure.If you only want big ones use big plastics. The last couple of hours of daylight seem to work best during the day the river below the dam has large trout in the pools and is easy access for the most part.I found a dead perch on the bank at Wellington that was massive and Without a photo no one is going to believe the size it was so there are big fish in there. The flesh is a firm pink colour that turns white when cooked and is delicious as their diet is mostly juvenile marron. With a good knife the fillets are a dream to take of and their skin is so tough they skin super easy they have big shoulders with lots of meat even small ones.dont try to scale them as it is near impossible as my mate found out the hard way and when I showed him how easy they are to fillet and skin we had a good laugh.I find the trout in the rivers to be near inedible some times the females have orange rubbery flesh and the males are white and go mushy when cooked.Stocked dam trout are better probably cos they were pellet fed for most of there lives.I have been involved in fresh water fishing since the late 70s and I believe some waterways are naturally hatching out trout as the fish have been stocked for the last 100 years and they have adapted to W.A. conditions.I lived in Yarloop for 13 years and was literally surrounded by the spotty buggers so I have seen some interesting things fishing in the hills around that area.We used to get the live minnows with bamboo poles and tiny 22 hooks with a segment of worm but I think they are protected now.Harvey dam has some massive perch and I have hooked up and lost line at a rapid rate then been bricked by some big fish in the past.Enjoy there is good action to be had if you know where to look I still have the teeshirt but live in the northern suburbs now so dont go fresh anymore.Lot of good memories
just do it.
