My experience with Navico/Lowrance

A couple of weeks back when out for a dive my HDS 5 combo GPS froze on me. Turning the unit off then on fixed it for about 30 seconds each time. After trying unsuccesfully to install the latest updates I called Navico (thanks for that advice Steve) who ran me through a couple of potential fixes over the phone that didnt work.
Next stop was off to a dealer (BIAS in Claremont where I bought it) to get them to install the updates. They had no success so Navico said send the unit to them. A week and a half later I got a brand new unit back from Navico as they were unable to fix the problem - whatever caused it I dont know.
No receipt, no questions just a straight up new unit. Was impressed with both Navico and BIAS service all round.

not only does it work I managed to be able to save all my GPS points onto SD card and they will soon be safely tucked away into the new unit.

Good result Timbo, in the 6
Good result Timbo, in the 6 or so calls I have made to them, their tecs have always been knowledgeable and very helpful.
I'm assuming with the new updates you are now running the 4.0 version? I updated my unit and it has changed my sounder settings no end, just when we had it sussed. BUGGER!! Back to the tweaking stage...

Even worse, I can say it now
Even worse, I can say it now that no dead whales have washed ashore, I bloody hit one last time I was out, bugger surfaced right in front of me without any warning whatsoever. I had enough time to put the motor in neutral and wait for the bang. Lucky enough it wasn't all that bad and despite pushing my transducer right up and ripping off my paddle wheel sensor we escaped with minimal damage. Not quite the thing you need when already 45km offshore. So even more tweaking required now!!
I can safely say that the whale swam off without showing any signs of the trauma I suffered during the ordeal. Very thankful, as it could have been so much worse!!
