just dont get sucked into a 4 stroke motor go for a direct injection 2 stroke eg etec or optimax it will be lighter faster just as quiet and better on fuel than those 4 stroke slugs honestly look into it all the advantages of a 4 stroke were only any good when they were put up againsted the old carby 2 strokes now with the latest tech 2 strokes around why would you buy a expensive heavy slug yes im not a fan of them everyone i know now runs etecs and are much happier allround with there motors

would it have been much more$$ to make the free board higher that way would be good for some fine weather fads trips and deeper ofshore just thought it would be more multi purpose

the decal wrap can they do that in plain colours? who does this ?

im looking at a cheaper alternitive to painting

dont think much more at all mate as i actually went in there and asked them to chop it down the original drawings have a bit more freeboard.

whaler im not interested in starting a 2vs 4 thread debate . if you want to beleive that a 2 stroke is going to be better then thats fine mate but dont come onto here with "dont say i didnt  told you so " style comments .

Stick with the yammi Brenz. There aren't too many happy etec owners up our way mate and the hours the motors get used up here soon sort out the quality from the crap. Look up Motorhouse in Broome

Tue, 2010-08-31 08:00

Look up Motorhouse in Broome ask for Terry, He will tell you what he thinks. One of our local charter skippers spends a lot of time up the territory working for a well known barra camp sponsored by etec and he thinks they are crap and cant handle the hours of trolling you need to do. Come to Broome mate and I'll show you what a 4 stroke is capable of Garanteed you won't be standing at the back of the boat after I push the throttle down

I've read some absolute drivel on various forums over the years, but whaler73, your pretty close to taking out first prize with this one.

How about you bring some facts and figures to the table, instead of dribbling shit, highjacking a blokes thread, continually pumping Hayway Marine and basically, just being a knob.

"keep one hand on your epirb at all times"

whaler, perhaps if you took one hand of your penis, you might realise you have been horrendously sucked in by the etec salesman, and paid a couple of thousand dollars more, for an inferior motor.

I just hope you spent some extra cash on a good quality VHF radio, so sea rescue can come pull you out of the shit when your etec jumps off your boat in disgust.

Mon, 2010-08-30 21:00

hey brenz

when you say vinal wrapped, you mean decals the whole side and no paint? like they do on cars?

i know you can get some pretty trick shit now. would look cool

does it cause any problems in the salt(in between sticker and ally)

ps....go the etec....lol........stir,stir,stir

i do like the etec cause its what i have, but a mate has a 115 yammy 4 and it is also good, i do like the yammy 4's over any others and we are replacing the donk on our tinny in a few weeks and guess what we are getting(if funds allow)..........

.......................20-30hp yammy 4.......

keep the pics coming and maybe some of your wrap ideas?

cheers

4 strokes are not what they used to be

Mon, 2010-08-30 21:30

4 strokes used to be "slow" and throttle response was relatively poor, they didnt rev fast and were very heavy etc

back then 2 stroke was the way to go.

now 4 strokes are a world apart from what they used to, DOCH engines, electronic fuel injection and just a overall much lighter faster revving engine.

its his boat he gets to choose the engine im pretty sure the 115 will be plenty fast enough

If it was me Brenz, I'd take the four stroke any day.  Never had a problem with ours.  And I definately have never found myself in a situation where I thought to myself "Geez I wish we had a two stroke right now".  What a load of crap!  Whaler by name - Whaler by nature.  Sounds a bit jealous to me.  Looking forward to seeing the end product!  I'm aslo interested in fish-ron's comments about the vinyl wrap???  Never heard of that on a boat???

vinyl

Tue, 2010-08-31 07:58

with the vinyl wrap it is a fully painted hull with the vinal over the top wich gets replaced every so often . have seen the coraline that yamaha uses and that is all wrapped up aswell and it looks mint they havent had any problems as yet so fingurs crossed.

dave : coraline can build any shape size boat you want and with the factory being in bayswater its easy to make your self a nusence like me every avo and watch the progress and change stuff along the way lol.

etech: one abreviation wich summs them up perfectly LOL! whaler i have owned one and to be honest it would be the last o/b i would ever consider putting on the back of my boat. have been using yammys for 8 years my self and dad has used them many more than that and never once had a problem.

And just to clarifie on

Tue, 2010-08-31 16:08

And just to clarifie on power comparisons. Many of my mates run Bream/Bass boats all across Australia and to be honest there's no real difference in pick up, speed, (remember many of these boats are pushing over 65 to 70 mph a bit more than your normal performance figures), compared to 2 or 4 stroke. But guess who's got the quieter, smother ideling and best fuel figures at the end of the day?

Oh and Yamaha still hold 43% of total outbaords sold new today.....

Nice looking boat Brenz. You've come along way from the days you used to walk around with the funny hat with the propellor on your head..You may not even remember those days. Ask your old man.

As far as Etec .........mate has a 200hp in Hedland , absolute dog !!!

He regets not buying a yamaha 4 stroke ..............
