Name and shame?

What do youse all reckon? Left woodies this arvo, heading out for a snapper bash. On the way out, passed a "unique" looking big ali (that I know from my area) was already back in the harbour, heading for the retrieve ramp, presumably after snapper bashing with the other 4000 other boats in Cockburn. said to my mate how nice the boat was, gave them a wave and kept on our way. 4 hours later..... Around 8pm, as we were retrieving, a "unique" looking boat of the same name, make, colour, and appearance (ie: the same boat), was re-launching to head back out there again..... You can't point the finger without proof, but it's obvious that at this time of year, this time of night, and at this ramp, 99% of boats launching are going for one thing. Snapper.... I reckon It's a pretty sad day when it comes to some boats bein out there every night, but when boats are doin the double-dip in one day, it won't take long for the powers-to-be tighten their grip a bit further.

Give the rego to fisheries.

Give the rego to fisheries.  they have an intel area where all that is recorded (intel led investigations).  the more they know about it, the more chance they'll catch them.  it's greedy sh1ts like that that will eventually spoil the whole deal for us honest ones.

Sat, 2011-09-24 01:40

It's all good mate, they're not spawning yet apparently :-D. Is it like this every year fellas or is it because of the closed season and better numbers this year. Surely even "not yet spawning aggregations" like these can't handle too much of this type of sustained pressure. Lotsa big breeders leaving the water before getting a shot off has to be damaging future stock levels, would they be better off making the closed season earlier so they at least get a decent chance to breed?

Spot on daisy. These threads pop up every year, I choose to avoid the snapper this time of year as they are about to/are spawning. Double dipping happens alot more than people think and not just with snapper

Fuck me,

Sat, 2011-09-24 21:52

I'm not beating around the bush anymore. This boat was well and truly doin the double dip. No question about it. Anyone that is stickin up for them sayin they may not have caught fish the first time, crew change, etc, are only kidding themselves. It's fucking poor form, and it's cunse like these that will definitely spoil it for everyone else. Need I remind everyone how fisheries instantaneously extended the snapper ban a few years ago, when a number of boats were swapping fish between boats on the water, so as to gain maximum catch rates with size and slot limits. This was a result of a late season spawn, outside the ban. Benefit of doubt does not factor in this equation. They deliberately broke the law. Even with a boat worth over $100,000, filling their freezer illegally was worth more.

Big black ali ?

If its this boat it lives around the corner from me. Not defending them but im 95% sure it has 2 blokes that own it , and if thats the case it could be that they fish at separate times with different crews some days.

Advising fisheries can do no harm to anyone.

Sun, 2011-09-25 09:47

If I was sus I would call fishwatch. All they would do is log it, and then check the boat as a target, and if the dudes are following the rules, no harm done. I dont mind being checked ( I was a bit nervous coming in with a 1cm legal trout placed in the ice, worrying about whether it may chill down in size, so took some pre-frozen snaps on the gauge) because we dont break the laws, so no worries, but I love reading reports about people getting caught raping what I love.

So if sus, report IMO.

We were out

Sun, 2011-09-25 10:19

crabbing a couple of years ago and our favourite spot had a big launch sitting on it with crab pots out, old fart went up a bit further and we put our  c/pots out and did a couple of rounds, got quite a few crabs.  Sat having some lunch, watched the big launch (2 on board) doing their pots in a tender, went to the launch.  Next minute the tender took off to the beach (next to Coogee jetty) unloaded something (maybe crabs) to a woman waiting, then came back to the launch and they started crabbing once again, by then we'd got just under our limit and come back to the club, they were still there.  It looked pretty suss to us that they were double dipping.

As to what happened, who knows, could be double dipping, could be as Holth said and could be swapping owners, its really too hard to tell. All you can really do is ring fishwatch and alert them to what you think is suspicious activities and let them do what they do.

That boat was out on Friday night too. But fuck, give them a break, they might not have even caught anything. My mate did the same thing on Friday, took his tub out in the morning with one of our mates and caught FA, then took me and a couple mates out late arvoafter we finished work and we stayed out there for 8hrs and caught FA again.

i never said he was double dipping i just said i seen him out a fare bit.the point i was trying to get across is that theres a fare bit of it going on and it may not be that one but its is  still happening. at the end of the day most of these boats out there are quality boats and when the weathers good i cant see why they wouldnt want to head further out and take some of the pressure off the breeding stock.

i myself have been trying to

Mon, 2011-09-26 12:28

i myself have been trying to catch the illusive cockburn sound pink snapper for 3 yrs now, until this yr i had caught none.

this season i got my 7mtr back on the water and admittidly ive been out out on at least 15 occasions with mixed success. 4 wks ago a landed my first size pink on soft plastics approx 55cms long, 2 weeks ago i landed a 9kg specimin on softies at d9.

and just recently, i anchored near that boat your talking about (like 4000 others did lol) and with 3 day old mulies and chicken pellets, 4 of us on board nailed our bag limit of 8 hooters between 8.8 and 10.4kg :)

yeah ive seen em catch a few but i dont think ive seen em bag out like we did the other day, not that they havnt lol

i personally approached that boat 1 day and they told me to be patient cause the fish are there, and after a short wait we were spoilt with some gd action, not to mention a great bbq the boys put on for us!!!!!!!! cheers fellas, i got my own bbq now, lol it kicks ass cookn steaks while catchn pinkys hehe

scotto, i have been out twice in 1 day on several occasions, to remind all of the rules, yes there isnt a boat limit of pink snapper but there more importantly is a bag limit of fish per angler per day! eg i myself can go out twice in 1 day and catch 1 snapper each trip to make up my daily limit! also i can catch 2 first trip, then take my mates out on a second trip but im not allowed to keep any more snapper or any cat 1 dersal fish for that matter,i have to release them, only my mates can catch them if they havnt reached their daily bag limit! if it was dhufish then YES i would be double dipping by going out  with different ppl on the same boat if the boat has already landed 2 dhuies for the day!

i didnt see wot u saw scotto but if u are just "presuming" these ppl did the wrong thing, i would be very careful wot u say and how u say it :) i know its hard to get fish but be patient and u will be rewarded, maybe even do some research on how to use your sounder, if u have 1. and try to find fish in the area b4 anchoring. this is wot i did more recently to get success.

please, if im mistaken about the rules, someone let me know.....

Hi Scotto, I was contacted

Tue, 2011-09-27 14:50

Hi Scotto,

I was contacted via a fellow boat owner who directed me to this web site to look at your opinion of my fishing activities, and I find some slanderous opinions have reared their ugly head and it motivated me to need to defend myself from someone who has left out some very important details from their opinion, those details being facts:

Although it seems a waste of time confusing opinion with fact as Smash indicated below:

Nothin like a good old

Sun, 2011-09-25 19:53

Nothin like a good old lynching is there

I thought I would give you all some facts to ponder as you get the lynching team together to come visit me:

FACT 1. The boat did go out twice on Friday once at 1.15pm and again at approximately 7.30pm

FACT 2. The fisheries boat came along side at 2.15pm and checked licenses, deck for scales, RBL and spent at least five minutes talking to us whilst along side. (Fisheries keep a list of all contacts they make and you can check this by calling Fremantle fisheries on 9432 8000, I did)

FACT 3. No pink snapper were landed on this boat on either trip out

FACT 4. The boat does have shared ownership

FACT 5. The boat is insured for over $200k

FACT 6. (This is the one the boat salesmen don't want me to tell you) Owning a $200k boat does not make the fish jump out of the water into the boat!!!

FACT 7. (For Roberta) It was the owner’s two year old boy that was dropped off at the beach to his mum.

FACT 8. The owners of the boat have small children who they want to be able to fish with in the future.

Scotto it is people like YOU who ruin it for everyone else but running off at the mouth before checking a single fact, and I would assume that given the time you wrote your initial post you were just pissed off at not getting a snapper yourself so you took it out on the tallest poppy you could see. Mate I appreciate what you are trying to achieve but hiding behind a web forum is not the way to get things done.

Quite obviously you know my boat and where I park it, I am the bald fellow that owns it and I am more than happy for you to come and talk to me about my fishing and I would certainly appreciate you taking the time to do it in person before hiding in a forum. (I am certainly going to be looking out for the blue boat with the shimano stickers to come say hi and see how your fishing is going.)

On that Scotto, we all know the rules, small fish, too many crays, whatever the reason the possible penalty is confiscation of boat and gear so I ask you this, who do you think would have more to lose by doing the wrong thing, the guy with the $200k boat or the dude with the little blue tinny??

I ALWAYS STICK TO THE RULES, I HAVE TOO MUCH TO LOOSE, I have kids and I want them to be able to fish the resources I fish.

Fishing used to be a relaxing thing for me but in the last two years I have been abused by charter boats 50km from any boat ramp for "being on their ground" I have had my boat run into by dickheads who own $500 boats and now I have you getting on my case with no facts but a case of jealousy.

Scotto please come and talk to me, you need to see the truth and then YOU need to write an apology.

glad to see you've popped up here to set the record straight-this sort of stuff happens on many forums and often the "target" is oblivious to it, but can have a wide reaching effect.

Stay on the site as a member, there is also interesting stuff of a less controversial nature on here!

I reckon you might be due an apology, and how about chuckin up a pic of the boat that DIDNT do all those terrible things, it must be a weapon for $200K!

Well done mate, this snapper

Tue, 2011-09-27 16:01

Well done mate, this snapper crap is way out of hand and for you to stand up and defend yourself is spot on. I made a comment on another post from second hand information that someone had double dipped on their quota, (no boat names or details were in the post) but after reading this will be going back and removing it, the information given to me may have been correct but this just brings to light that assumption of guilt may be well off the mark.

Thanks for your facts but unfortunately these two men were well into their 70's, both went out in the tender and crabbed for well over 20 minutes doing their crab pots, there were no children on board,  Allfishedout would you leave your 2 yr old boy in a launch alone.

Also only one elderly man went to the beach, we watched through our binocolours, so thanks anyway allfished out, I did see what I saw.

This was two years ago, as I have and checked the photos I took of the crabs we caught that day,  I'm sorry I won't be apologying for what I saw.

All fished out

Tue, 2011-09-27 17:44

Before I start, it's not a case of jealousy, or tall poppy syndrome at all.

I contacted allfishedout to get his pov, and it was a unique set of circumstances that had him head back out there within a couple of hours of retrieving. By the sounds of it, the only thing he did wrong was not tell his missus he went for a fish in the arvo.

I also need to swallow my pride and take back the comments I said earlier on in the post about his boat, as well as lay out a sorry, aimed directly at allfishedout. Hopefully you hang around on the forum.
