just use a twisty to get the tailor, and go through the shoulder, just behind the eye. It's best to get it into the channel, not sure which sides best because they have been caught either side of the bridge, but north side is less crowded. Just get ur bait near the pylon and wait. Best of luck, I've never managed a large one myself.

Fishing for mulloway is so

Tue, 2010-12-14 19:04

Fishing for mulloway is so tide dependant it's not funny. Thats what i have found over the years.

Full or New moon it doesn't matter. High tides over 1m about 10pm, fish 2 hours either side of this.

Fish dead baits like fresh scalies, tailor fillets back to back, or biggg mulies. As for livies, tailor around 15-20cm with 2 snelled 6/0 gama occy hooks, pin one through the nose section and nip the other behind the dorsal.

Sit and wait...

Catches big mulloway though

Not as if he is taking them home for a feed, more trying to release them back into their natural enviroment, using the " NEW " 6/0 release hook method.

Yep i'm not going to lie, i have caught a mulloway on a undersized tailor.

I bet 99% of people that fish the narrows for them have done aswell...its no huge secret.

Yep not a good thing, thats why i fish spots where dead baits always catch

pretty suprised this is being discussed and defended so openly on here. we always get in the sh!ts about people keeping undersize fish, how is using them for bait any different.
People come on here to learn new techniques and todays hot tip is undersize fish as bait

mulloway, small tailor is the best way!! im guessing by your post you have never tried it!! its not like your taking heaps of tailor just one for bait!

nope, havent tried it. im sure it works great, thats not the point. If you think its ok to use one for bait, why is it any different to taking one home for dinner? Theres no difference!! and then if everyone takes "just one" undersize fish every time they go fishing whats the point in the bloody rules?

Pretty bloody bad in my opinion, hope fisheries starts checking out the narrows and whats being used for bait if this practice is as common as you are saying

Just came back from the Narrows, met a guy there going after a mulloway. We were flicking around and not a single tailor. Went to both sides of the bridge and nothing...

Must be a crap day...

if u don't see the gulls in the water, the tailor ain't around. that's what i learnt. when the birds sit on the pylon nearer to where i fish, the tailor fire up like crazy but when they sit on the other side, the tailors are not too excited on this side
