Neap tide

Please excuse my ignorance but I am unsure what a neap tide means especially when there are several tidal movements during the day

I spent easter with my son at a lodge in Arnhem Land where the fishing in general was sensational especially blue water but the barra were a bit slow as there was no major run off and the guides kept saying that a neap tide would have been the best

Planning on booking again next April but want to be there for neap tides

This is the Darwin forecast for the week we are considering

Does a neap tide fall on any of these days?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Neap tide is when there is the least difference between high and low, fishing is better as you have less water movement, clearer water. IMO start at the mouth of the river/creek, follow the bait fish. a saying to keep in mind " no run no fun". great barra fishing can be had on big tides/runs

Spring tides, tides of the greatest range between high and low, occour at the full and new moon. Neaps, the lowest range, at half moon.

Wednesday and Thursday of the week you have chosen are certainly neaps. Fishing can be good on neaps as well as on springs, you just need to be in the right place at the right time. The top end of a system on springs generally have the bait pushing right up, and the predators are not far behind.

Sorry didn't look any further down the page, Friday should be included. You sure have neaps to work with.

Water is clearer on neaps, but because the gutters don't always drain right out the bait can remain out of reach in some creek systems. Site fishing in clean water is a great experience which one way or other you will no doubt experience at such a great location.

Thanks for the replies

Have booked for the 18th to 22nd April to get the best of the neap tides

As mentioned our recent trip was sensational, caught over 25 species of fish, many for the 1st time and my son and I are not even particularly skilled fishermen but the lodge provides excellent guides

Look forward to fishing the neap tides and hopefully the north will get more rain this year and a better runoff
