Rock and Roll

 Hi mate,

Had similar issues before, without knowing what your boat has in it already the following things helped with the stability. Inbuilt kill tank that has the ability to flood once the boat is stopped. This is similar to the way barcrusher boats operate. Also ensuring the fuel tank(s) are located under the deck and are positioned in the middle of the boat. If the boat has a good vee such as you described the boat may tend to lean into the wind once underway. You may want to consider installing trim tabs in at a later date to counter this. Hope this helps.

unfortunately that's the tradeoff. deep v travels great but more on fuel and not as stable at rest

As stated above....do all you can to lower the centre of gravity. (storage as low as possible, full fuel etc, not storing stuff on the roof. )
what is the deadrise angle?

24 degrees i believe

full tank ,the 2 kill tanks would prob. hold 120 litres of water ,asked the builder said trim tabs wont do anything at all,its not ahard top so no real weight there, seems i may need to get used to it , some what disapointed ,& yes it rides on a lean to pasengers side ,fuel consumption about the same as etec.

not much u can do then.24

not much u can do then.

24 is pretty deep and would ride nice and soft. it's the tradeoff.
the fuel consumption would only be minimal....same boat and motor with shallower deadrise ..less water pushing ...would use a little less fuel, but again nothing you can do.

if the boat always leans to the same side while underway
u may be able to change the way it leans by motor fin adjustment.

I see in your profile you have a 6.1 Genesis.
that's the old boat? or did you alter the specs ?

the standard 6.1 genesis have a 20 degree deadrise and are stable as a rock while drifting/fishing.

24 degrees is a pretty deep

24 degrees is a pretty deep V-usually anything near that will have a flooding keel to sit it down abit.

Trim tabs wont help stability at rest but certainly wi at speed.

What sort of boat is it with that deep a V?

Dunno the specs, but yeah, my mate's always sayin "that thing is soo beamy". I do drive it hard and heading into seas at a slight angle I have managed to land it on the next sea/swell a few times with a thud. Pulled the threads out of the dash that secures the saddle for one of the t top cross brace cables last week haha, now has nuts and washers underneath. But learnt that heading into it at more of an angle like 45 degrees rarely thuds when doing 20kn plus. But yeah, drive it sensible and its sweet in almost anything, and of course good on the drift. I tie the sea anchor on the bow and turn the donk so the boat drifts sideways and even in a 15kn southerly its surprisingly comfortable and safe, even if I do start to go green lol

deep V

Sat, 2014-05-03 08:04

My boat has a 24 degree deadrise and multichines and is very stable.
It's a side console so it naturally leans a touch on the starboard side (console side) as all side consoles do.

all else being equal a boat

all else being equal a boat with a standard rotation outboard will lean to the port side due to prop torque.

More pronounced the deeper the v is
