New car for the wife, Ford Focus diesel titanium?

looking at getting a new car for the missus, was thinking a new Ford Focus diesel. I was wondering if anyone has or knew of someone that had one of these cars? And if they were happy with it... Any other suggestions welcome. 5 door hatch only

Drove one last week

Mon, 2014-11-24 08:22

Got my Ranger serviced last week and the dealer gave me a focus to drive around for the day, being down from Karratha we had a heap of running around to do and the wife had a heap of time to suss it out .She gave it a thumbs up from her perpective as it was easy to park ,zippy in traffic and economical beyond beleaf. It only had 7k on the clock but was nice to drive around and kept up with traffic really easy . Her car is a mini cooper so I was expecting distain from her. You could do worse

I bought my wife a 6 month old Corolla with the 7 speed auto and it's been a great little car thus far, and quite economical also. Kinda offsets the fuel I've been burning up in the you beaut ute. Just as well 95 pulp fuel is coming down in price.

Purchased a new diesel focus

Mon, 2014-11-24 12:07

Purchased a new diesel focus "S" for my wife a year ago. It replaced her BMW which she loved wholeheartedly but was starting to cost. Within a month the BMW was forgotten. The 2 litre diesel goes like stink and pulls like a train and uses bugger all fuel, around 6.5 in town. Fabulous little car to drive, quiet and easy to get in and out of parking spots. We looked at the Titanium but couldnt justify the the extra $10k for the leather, sunroof and parktronic as we dont do a lot of parallel parking. having said that i think that Ford have dropped the pricing on the Titanium. we paid $30k for the "S" with 5 year warranty.

If I were to buy today, I would be looking at the Mazda 3 with the skyactive technology. Even more economical and probably finished better than the Focus, which is built in Thailand. One word of advice, dont trust the satnav in the Focus, it habitually loses us !

cheers

Cheers for your input guys... Will speak to the wife see what she thinks. She did mention Mazda but judging by the texts today, I think she maybe set on the focus haha...  She currently has a 04 vy berlina V8 so running cost should be cut by half!

My wife's Corolla averages the high 6s per 100 ks, Depends on my running around, sometimes I'm averaging 15lts per 100k around town and sometimes I can get down to 11lts if I'm doing highway drives if I'm lucky.

I was looking at the last of the 4.2 but was looking from 35k to 40k.... And that's for a 8 year old car! So we decided to get something new instead.
