New found love of fishing

Hi guys.

Im new to the site and am loving reading all the info and chatter that goes on here. I just purchased a small (13ft) tinny and have been getting out as much as possible. Yet to really bag anything of note but have fallen in love with the whole experience.

I had a great crabbing session down cockburn sound way on a crabbing run a few weeks back but thats about all. Hit up the swan yesterday around garret rd bridge and finally caught a couple of bream, nothing of size sadly. Best catch of the day was a few blueys off the line which was a surprise.

Im keen to find some areas where i can get out in a tinny and actually catch something rather than feeding the bastards, which has been the case for the last month or so. Not looking for anyone secret spots or anything, just help to point me in the right direction so i can enhance my love of being on the water.

Cheers

 welcome to the site.

first question for you is , where are you located and where do you fish

secondly , do you have a sounder or gps on board.

if you have a look around the cockburn sound and garden isl you will find with some burley the herring , skippy ,gardies and possibly kg's will come around. even the good old western king wrasse arent too bad on the tooth and there is plenty of them around just out from the john ledge reef. also plenty of sand whiting just out from there and easy to get a feed. you dont need to go too far to get a feed and have some fun

Thanks for the welcome!

I live in scarborough. Dont have a gps or sounder at this stage as im just starting out. My brother lives in Rockingham so i do venture down there occasionally as it seem the best place to get out in the deep blue with a smaller craft. Pretty much fishing blind atm hoping to snag something but loving it all the same!

Hi mate, welcome. Have to agree with Faulkner Family, cockburn sound is a great place to start out.

You don't have to go too far from shore to find some fish. Also try for squid, plenty of them in those areas.

Hi mate,

If it is a good day with not much wind you could launch from hillarys too. When you leave the marina the north side is pretty calm and around little island in about 5-6 meter of water you can get some nice fish, even the occasional snapper. There are plenty of snook, herring, garfish and squid around. But I would recommend to get at least a fish finder as you will be much safer when you can see the depth you are in. There are lots of shallow reefs around perth.
