New OH combo advice
Hi guys
Am after a bit of advice on a new OH combo if anyone would be kind enough to help. Ill be using it mainly for bottom dropping in 60-100m, as well as a bit of jigging and even as a backup troller if needed.
Ive narrowed the reel down to either the Talica 12 2 peed or the Saltiga 30 2 speed. Both are obviously decent reels but the main differenes I can spot is that the talica is a touch bigger capacity and stronger drag. But Im still struggling to make the final decision. Has anyone used both and have a preference or know of any pitfalls of either reel?
Has anyone seen these reels side by side and know if one is actually bigger than the other? havent been able to find anywhere in perth that has both of them (Im guessing the Talica would be slightly bigger?)
For a rod I was looking at something around the $250-300 mark. Any ideas? I like the look and feel of the fin nor offshores, but they only come in either 30 0r 80lb (will be runnning 50lb on the reel so something to match that would be good) and have a plastic reel seat- am i being a bit unrealistic to look for something with a metal seat that still light and jiggy Ive got a live fibre stroker 24kg but its a bit heavy and thick for jigging, something slimline would be good.
Oh yeah, one more question (kind of) related to the reel... I havent done much in the way of OH jigging, will I have to thumb lay the line on the reels when Im cranking, or do you spool it slightly under full to allow for this or something?
Cheers in advance guys, any help would be much appreciated

Saltiga
I am not a big fan of those saltiga overheads, just my opinion I think they are a bit overpriced. Maybe have a look at a fin nor marquesa, I really like mine

I've had a play with the Saltiga Leverdrags and I'm not a fan, a bit rattly, if you pick up and give one a bit of a crank in your local tackle shop alongside say a Talica and Torsa or even a Fin Nor Marquesa you'll see what I mean.

First of all do you really
First of all do you really need a two speed for that size reel and type of fish you expect to catch? The extra gears etc make the reel a little heavier but also off balance a bit. IMO the single speed of both will be better and the Talica 10 is probably a better comparison to the Saltiga 30 , maybe even the 8. I actually prefer the star drag Saltiga Z30 as it has a narrow spool and is better balanced than the lever drags of both the Talica and LD Saltiga. The Z30 is my pick and everything about it is quality. For $300 on a rod the Tcurve deep jig 200 will serve you very well and wil match very nicely to any of the reels mentioned.

cheers for the info so far
cheers for the info so far guys. Looks like the talica it is then.
Bunny- My boat lives in Carnarvon and I live there about 1/3rd the time, so itll be being used for a large range of fish- everything from reds and baldies and decent sized cod to yellowfin and good mackies, so would I be right in saying the two speed is the way to go? Im not a real fan of star drags- levers just seem easier to keep an eye and adjust the setting. When you say off balance- how noticable is it?
cheers mate, dont mean to try n be a smart ass- just trying to figure things out. Will definately have a look at the deep jig rod. Another member has offered me a crony prodigy at a good price, so will look into them as well.

Why would you need a two
Why would you need a two speed reel for a mack? I think Tony knocked one off on a Shimano 4000 sized spinner on the weekend. Even the YFT around here for that matter.

Single speed IMO. The Talica
Single speed IMO. The Talica or Torsa is certainly the best option.

It's not that noticeable,
It's not that noticeable, splitting hairs a bit really. The smallest Torsa though is a big reel compared to the others and it is a little off balance with it's big gear. From what you say a single speed is the way to go and I reckon you would have enough capacity with a Talica 8 if you wanted to go lever drag.

Just a thought ... Accurate
Just a thought ... Accurate bx400n is a very nice reel, single speed, small sized, and narrow spool, though holds ~400yrds of 50lbs, extremely good leverage on the handle. I use to have it on a Finnor OH 30lb rod (takes more than that), but I kind of didn't like the big grip on them (unless you've got big hands). Worth having a look.

The two speeds also tend to
The two speeds also tend to loose infinite anti reverse which sucks for jigging. Unless you're winding on a game chair or winding up kilos of lead, I dont really see why many people would need 2 speed for most fishing anyways?

As for the rod
Just love the Monster mesh, but then also love the deep jig. Somehow the balance has swung with me. Used to love Shimano in everything, and this is still the case with reels, but rods Im more towards Diawa or others. Just feel there is a better feel with Diawa compared to Shimano. I think they have lost the plot lately with their rods.
