New reel
Submitted by Spinnerak on Tue, 2012-02-28 17:06
In the market for a light reel, planning on running 10lb through it and use it for light plastics
and maybe throwing a few small hardbods around.
around $250, atm its stradic 2500 vs. Pfueger Patriarch 9235 XT vs. Daiwa tierra 2500
just looking for your thoughts, and if it helps the rod is a FWA 4-6kg spin

Last model caldia 2506,
I have last model caldia 2506, smooth, ultimate tournament drag and eva knob. Rayannes gotem cheap. New freams or ballistic are nice, several nice daiwas to choose from.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I still don't have a clue what you are going on about? The stella FE has 10kg of drag. The Stradic FJ has 8kg. The 2011 Freams has 7kg.

You might be able to slip the Sustain in for 250. The new model looks sweet and will be better than the Stradic.

I'd go the stradic, but a 3000 not a 2500.
IIRC it is the same reel with a different spool. Weighs the same but you get more capacity.

If he's just using it for SPs
If he's just using it for SPs and small HBs, running 10lb braid he wont need the extra capacity. 2500 holds more than enough.
Having a 3000 spool with extra backing etc, just adds more weight.

I am a Stradic CI4 convert
Mighty little reels. Have a 2500 and a 4000, and cant fault them.
Get a CI4 above a plain Stradic if in budget.

Just watch the Patriarch as
Just watch the Patriarch as she's a Magnesium reel, they are saltwater protected via a paint but if you scratch it she'll bubble up pretty quick, I've been using some Abu sorons for a little while now, a tiny bit heavier but bloody tough and smooth, heaps better drag too (equivalent with carbontex).

ci4 are nice but just bought a daiwa fuego 3000, spare spool, zaion so light weight like the ci4, waiting for arrival to test it out but have heard they are good and for under $200 cant go wrong eitherway, also im sure u can find a ci4 for around $200, not $250.
Here we go again.

Got one from o/seas also. The US luvias equivalent for under $200, can't beat that. Check your spare spool for damage, mine had a few nicks on the lip that occurred during transit.

great reel for the price, think you's be hard pressed to find something as good.
going to compare it back to back with a ci4 4000 30lb accudepth shimano trevala tvs70ml
fuego will be on the tvs70l with 20lb so will be a good to compare.

ci4 vs FJThe Fj has the
ci4 vs FJ
The Fj has the introduction of the new 'x-ship' which is definately an improvement over the ci4 due to the ci4 only being a lightweight version of the FI stradic. You also lose that rediculous play from the spool sliding up and down the shaft which is something most stradic owners come to loathe. The price difference between the two is a spool of decent braid.. I know which i'd rather pick. Don't get me wrong I had a ci4 for over two years, landed salmon, macks, tuna, big tailor and plenty of skippy and the reel never let me down, however my next outfit will be a 1000 FJ stradic and a spool of varivas seabass.

i agree
ive got a 1000fj and a 3000 fj and also a 1000ci4 and i think the fj feels like its smoother and stronger (less flex) jmo, ive also got stellas of various sizes and certate customs and i still cant believe how well the fj stradics perform for the money at that price you just cant beat them in my opinion. cheers

Agreed with Flangies.
Own a 2500 size stradic ci4+ 3000 size spare spool which fits nicely onto the 2500 body. If you squeeze the bail arm rotor, it flexes and bends inwards. The free play even when the drag is locked down irritates the hell out of me although it never interferes with the fishing. Due to the high ratio, there is a fair bit of inertia to wind the reel. It felt as though there is some resistant in getting the handle to turn. But if you can ignore that, then there's not much of a problem.

you upset about putting a tiny bit more effort into winding a small reel? I personally have no problems with mine. Its a great reel if you can handle being a man.
