New reel for jigging
Submitted by sammy85 on Mon, 2010-11-01 23:08
I am looking at buying my first spin reel for jigging and the occasional bottom bouncing. I have been looking at the daiwa saltist 6500 and the okuma Salina 2 16000. Just wondering if anyone has any info about these reels for those purposes. I want to spend around $300 and open to suggestions about any other reels in that price range that can do the job as good or better than the above 2.
Cheers

Forget Daiwa Saltist spin.....
The Daiwa Saltist 6500 spin is a high gear ratio reel, not really ideal for jigging.
Definately look at the Salina II 16k or a Spheros 18000.

Also what size line will you
Also what size line will you be running? 6500 size in Daiwa is big and therefore heavy. If you want to run 50lb braid you could use a 4500 size which will be much nicer to use. You shpould be able to get 300 yards of 50 lb braid on a reel this size.

dawia have released a new range to combat the high gearing of the saltist reels, they are called exceler da, they do two sizes a 4500 and 6500, from what i can tell they are the same reel just the exceler is the low speed version. They are also a little cheaper at $259 for the 6500. Definately woth a look at

Wahoo, Saragosa, Spheros
I've been using the Ajiking Wahoo 8000 since last season, it's a pretty solid unit that won't let you down.
Also used the Saragosa and the Spheros and they are also great value for what you get... although I think the appearance of the Spheros is getting a bit tired.
