Ningaloo Homestead

Hi all

Thinking of going to Ningaloo homestead camping for a week, have any of you guys stayed there. Looking for info like is water available, can you camp on the beach etc etc

Or maybe in Cape range national park at

Pilgamuuna, osprey bay, or neds camping ground

Need somewhere you can have a 1kva honda generator and has good reef for snorkelling

thanks in advance

You will need a chemical toilet or hire one from them before you start thinking of anything else.

Better

Lot better for the environment than people squatting behind bushes and leaving Canberra pollie bus tickets blowing everywhere and enough food to support 20 million flies.

You will need to supply you own water as it is not available from the homestead. Communication is via UHF on a repeater on channel 1 and Phil [owners hubby] callsign is Coastwatcher.

If you are taking a dinghy, Jane bay or around the corner towards the homestead in Starfish bay would be ideal spots as they're only about 400 metres from the reef itself and are sheltered.

I have only ever heard VERY GOOD reports from people who have stayed at Ningaloo Homestead,  great people,  offerring a great facility,  looking after the environment.   Great fishing and snorkelling.   Been there on a number of occassions on day trips.   Why not give them a call and find out what they have to offer?

Unfortunate they have locked gates for most of the areas.  Jane bay is a sanctuary apart from land based fishing.  Better off going to South Lefroy or Winderbandi (both magic spots)  There are quite a few little hideaway spots between there as well to keep out of the wind and theres easy breaks in the reef if you have a tinny.

Rumour has it that the govt might give back the 2 mile of coast line DEC have claim on in the future.

Hey CCCWe stayed at South

Hey CCC

We stayed at South Lefroy,  July 2009 and had a great time. Yes you do need to be totally self sufficient including chemical loo (porta potty), water, firewood etc etc etc. The place was pretty busy with grey nomads and the track was pretty shit, but when you go in we turned south and went along the beach for a bit and had absolutely no dramas getting a beach spot. Dunes behind us and no dramas with gens etc. (couldn't hear them over the wind anyway :-)) The only thing I saw as a problem was that unless you had a tinny the best snorkelling was a decent swim away and in getting there, you had to dodge everyone else in a boat hell bent on getting somewhere in a hurry and a decent current to boot. To get around that I managed to get my arse on a fellow campers tinny with the kids and had some of the best snorkelling ever. The owners couldn't have been more friendly. Enjoy!

Cheers
