North mole

Hello everyone, I'm a brand new to this site. I also just moved here from Canada so I'm very inexperienced with fishing. None of my family is that into fishing so they just take me and I fish. I have been to beaches with no luck but I've done good in the north mole with my Mom catching a 45 cm tailors and I've caught some snook which my mom loves. I have been wanting some tips on tailor fishing in the north mole or any other land based fishing. By the way I am 14.
Also I have been reading alot of the forums really nice info. Thnx.

Sounds like you are doing pretty well all by yourself, well done. Keep an eye on the others that fish the mole successfully,  you will pick up lots of tips from them. Im sure some others will give you some better tips

Mate, your doing ok without

Mate, your doing ok without tips! Just out of interest what sort of gear do you have?:

I've never fished north mole but with tailor you can't go wrong with the old unweighted mulie on a set of gangs either sized 3/0 or 4/0 (i use 4's) attached to a length of leader whether its wire trace or fluorocarbon. Tailor aren't fussy...when they are hungry they will smash just about anything. If you want herring just burley up with pilchard cubes or whatever you have (plenty of options) and they should turn up though it might be a bit blowy and choppy tonight and I tend to associate herring with calmer waters.

Off the beach I tend to use a running star sinker rig (though this depends on whether the beach is reefy or not) with 20lb mono, attached to a 30lb flurocarbo leader tied to 4/0 gangs. You can fish lighter (alot more fun), I just go with 20lb as it tends to cover most bases when it comes to bigger stuff like mullas and rays. Hope that helps enough. Have a look at the search function on the left of the forum as well, there is stacks more info you can browse through if you want.

Thnx for the great info

Hey thnx for the great info! I have 2 10 or 9 foot rods and the ones we brought overseas r about 6-7 foot and a 7-8 foot rod I have 12 lbs line 15lbs braid and 30lbs braid. I usually use floats and size4/0 gangs with pilchards but I am a complete newbie at beach fishing as there r no beaches In Canada. I have tried fishing city beach several times but only caught one 32cm flathead which tasted delicious one of my favorite eating fish now luckily I had my fish identification and tape measure.

Never too cold for tailor...its generally too cold for the angler, thats the problem

You'll be right, worth a shot. Generally with tailor the rougher the conditions the better.

I went from 6-12:00 every single space was taken so we had to go on the inside where all the boats are. We still managed to get 11 herring 4 snook and a baby mulloway maybe 30-40cm we released it but was a sup rising catch while herring fishing.

Sort of

Fri, 2013-03-01 16:33

Sort of, my mate was there a couple of mornings ago and he caught a nice 50cm bonito but nothing else. Also I think that the tailor r on the bite just a bit shyer then usual. And also sometimes everyone is fishing for them but only the a few people r gett ing them and they get multiple like 6-7. But I haven't had too much luck with tailor just snook and yellowtail and herring.
