Octopus traps

Managed to get a few of these Octopus traps over christmas but have had no luck in my normal huants around the weed beeds of warnbro sound.

anyone got any ideas? do i leave them out along the reef for a few nights or go back to using the tryed and tested terracotta pipe.

if anyone has had any luck with these it would be good to get a bit more info.

Every time I pulled mine I

Every time I pulled mine I at least averaged an occy per trap. Mine were set in the Bunbury Harbour which is mud pretty much and silt. I found if you left them 7-10 days they worked best, pulling every few days or daily was a waste of time. Mine were in an area where there is major traffic but they never got stolen because I put them next to moorings that never get used or cardinal marks etc, a metre or 2 away from such things my bright orange float just looked like it had something to do with the markers so never had them stolen. Awesome catch rates, just pulled them out and sold them due to work commitments. After 4 months doing it once a week I had so much occy I didn't know what to do with it.

Also, after about a month the lights in the crabs stopped working, I didn't bother replacing them and found catch rates never dropped.

Thanks Jaggo,

i work away 8/6 so pulling them once a week will work well.

Just a bit nervious about leaving them out for that long but ill take your advice and leave them near an old moring that i know of in my area.

See what happens.
