Official Report - OVER NIGHT Fishing Comp supported by the Tackle Shack
Official Report - OVER NIGHT Fishing Comp supported by the Tackle Shack
Date: Saturday 22 October / Sunday 23 October 2011
Rondevu point: Tackle Shack
Time: leave Tackle Shack at 1pm, then meet with fellow anglers at 10th Light Horse Trail, Wanneroo.
Rules: Fishing from arrival at Wilbinga until 0800am Sunday morning. Prize giving at Rondevu point Wilbinga 0900am.
All anglers arrived at the Tackle Shack, fairly spirited, with tales of the big one they lost and the big one they were going to catch overnight with showings of traces and hooks, sinkers and tackle equipment that may be used for 1000 pound monsters, and in-between we had a Welshman who seemed quite graceful in show casing how far some rods can bend. Bruce from Tackle Shack were kind enough to show case his bbq skills in supplying much needed energy for the anglers, in the form of bbq ribs and sausages.
We moved in convoy to meet fellow anglers at the 10th Light Horse Trail at about 2pm. We arrived at the Wilbinga destination and within an hour the rain started and it soaked us for a good hour and a half. Quite a sight as most fisherman were diehard, spread along the beaches, in their attitudes to try get the first catch of the day.
A lot of action between 5pm and 8pm as the fish came on the bite with some good sizes in both the edible and non-edible classes. From about 10pm we had the “older folk” that enjoyed their hot chocolate before being tucked safely and “cozy” into their swaggers.
At 3am some action as stingrays and a lost tailor were caught. Then arrived 430am when most anglers got up to get ready for the tailor bash. No sooner than 5am and the first tailor were caught with the old boys Sherbie / Colin showing some skills in bagging 2 tailors each quickly.
By 730am we were packing and getting ready to head to the Wilbinga Prize Giving Rondevu Point.
Competition:
All anglers that participated in the competition side of the event had to complete a Record that identified the species caught with records of the length and time caught. The winners were identified by the amount of species and size. 8 Species in total: Sharks, Stingray, Tailor, Mulloway, Herring, Silver Bream, Flathead and Whiting.
Total fish recorded on the day:
Bronze Whaler x 4
Shovel Nose Ray x 1
Blue Spotted Eagle Ray x 2

Port Jackson x 2
Black Smooth Ray x 1
