Surf casting help.

Hi guys, had some issues the other night while beach fishing, twice over the course of the night l had my wind on leader get caught up in the 1st guide causing a break off during casting.

1st time was my albright getting caught on the guide. l switched over to a back to back uni which worked well until my bimini got caught up.after that l decided just to tie my main line straight to the swivel.

Before you respond heres a few things that may be relevent.

Having not beached fished for many years l use to use mono and not bother with a wind on, but going to braid l thought l would give it ago.l have no problems tying my knots

its a new reel Saltist 6500 with 30lb braid, the spools pretty full and my mate thinks its to full. Can that be an issue? Leader was 60lb black magic

The rods an old alvey rod 12ft 9 wrap MT lve just had reguided and turned into a spinning stick.

Being a short butted rod l still use the alvey style cast, Can my casting style cause these issues?

My mate was using a similar set up and has never had problems with this.

Does the length of the double play a part.?also l had the leader 3 times on the spool for casting.

Any info guys would help as my fingers abit raw from casting with the braid.

cheers Paul

look up "gt knot" much smaller knot or the more advanced "fg knot" which isnt all that much harder. or go to a proper wind on leader. they are between 5 and 10 bux.

The FG knot is for me. I posted a thread here not so long ago about this. I got sick of seeing expensive weighted poppers hitting the east coast of South Africa.

I also lost the tip eye on my favourite Lemax. The FG knot is quite complicated but with practice it works very well and let's face it, you won't have to tie it too often as a breakoff will normally be at the swivel.

Im making my own now coz there arent too many that are 7-8m long. Plenty of tutorials on this online too and you can do these at home on a couch in frount of the tele. Beats tying a fg in the dark on a beach, all you gotta tie is a bimini and I can do this now with my eyes shut.
