OH high speed spin setup ?

G'day guys,

Wondering if anyone has any advice on some decent overhead spining blanks and what's the latest reels to suit ?

Prefer a blank around 11ft as this personally gives me max casting distance. Have been looking at a calstar blank but also open to off the shelf rods. Was trying to get my hands on an 11ft Tiralejo but they have since sold out where i was looking.

Will be used for spinning the rocks up north for mackies and tuna's and prob run 10-12kg thread and stay with mono.

Would love to get a big silver mack attack on a chunk of metal just like they did in the old days.

cheers
matt

Have you tried Getaway Outdoors on Bannister Rd in Canning Vale, I know they have some Tiralejos, not sure if they have 11ft oh though.

try motackle.com.au for your tiralejo, they sold out but told me they were getting some more 11 and 10 footers in.  They were on special for $200 but I think numbers are getting lean as I dont think shimano are making them anymore

sorry to mention another forum, but harry, the presenter off fwa, has 2 13ft tiralejo rods for 200 bucks a pop, not the length your looking for, but i didnt think shimano made them anymore.

heres the link anyway. http://www.fishingwa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18049

Thanks Rig, tried MO but

Thanks Rig, tried MO but already sold out on the latest shipment and they weren't sure if there would be another.

Jay, overhead? Will be purely a metals only set up. I just prefer to use them and enjoy the casting distance i can get out of them, especially into the wind. Bibbed minnows are better under the more conventional spin tackle so would have one rigged and ready to fire when needed.

Cheers

go spin

Matt most people go spin using anything from and 850penn to a saltiga dogfight.  I got a daiwa saltist 6500 spin that I have been pretty happy with, essentially if you are chucking metals you want them to go as fast as possible so a reel like the saltist has a 6.1 ratio which means at full sped your lure is going faster than most reels with a ration around 4 or 5.  I couldnt afford the dogfight so I got the saltist.  If you are planning on chucking big hardbody lures then the speed isnt essential

rods are critical aswell.  where there are mackies there are usually sharks so you want something stiff enough to put the brakes on them.  The premium is the daiwa GT86, I got a sylphy hearty rise from oceanside that I have been really happy with unfortunately I havent seen them in that shop recently.  Another 1 i was looking at the other day is the shimano T curve GT special would be perfect for spinning for macks.  once again if you are planning on chucking hardbody lures you will need something a bit whippier than these mentioned rods.

where abouts are you planning on fishing

Over Head Reels

If you can master distance casting a decent overhead you would never go back to spin, greater distance and accuracy hands down.
