Sad to see it being pulled down, spent a few years working on to keep it in operation before they closed it to shipping and handed it over to the jetty conservation mob. Was involved with removing the section from the naval cadets building to the end of the causeway, there was a few oldies from town were sorry to see the öld blacksmiths shop" go then as well."
Used to wag high school with a mate from Marist bros and pick up our handlines hidden under the jetty to go fishing around the "Red Cross " landing giving our fish to who ever hadn't been successful. Mussels were easy to reach and a ready made bait supply.
Deepwater was a jetty rat from as soon as he could swim, coming down with me and Morsey to catch bait, big skippy if you knew where, tailor in season, herring, salmon trout, mulloway crabs and of course stingrays by the dozen.

No probs guys,my grandparents
No probs guys,my grandparents used to take me down there when i was a grom as well.Caught my first mulloway there and plenty bread and butter species. My old black lab would get out of my little stacer and go for a walk under the jetty when we pulled up under there to get out of the sun whilst crabbing. Was a bit of a crack up he was hunting the seagulls and refused to come back so we would leave him ,go pull the nets then track him down in between pulls. Good Times.

Can I make a correction on that Leemo
It was very convenient NOW we re just plain ol' landlocked OUT in Bunbury!
It'd be tough bein a young en around here now trying to cut their teeth. Backbeach, Inlet, Collie River. No access to Port - I understand why but it doesn't make it any easier unfortunately.
Merry Xmas All - Cheers for the photo to Willo - looks like they re getting seriously into the removal phase now.

Scored a 10ft Silstar rod with a Daiwa reel for christmas one year that i was going to use for salmon but i couldnt resist giving it a trial run so off to the Bunno jetty we went .Some bonito were being caught right at the end that day so on with a mulie on a gang and out it went .
10 mins later theres my brand new rod skidding across the boards and swan diving into the drink. Now im not affraid to admit it i had a little bit of a cry and some bloke saw this so he started throwing a set of ganged hooks and a heavy sinker in the direction it went and wouldnt you know it he hooked the line that slid down to the sting ray that took my rod and as it came up the hooks tore out of the ray and there were his hooks stuck on mine and i started pulling in my line and got the rod and reel back.
I went on to catch many salmon with that rod and reel until one day the drag failed on a big sambo off the rocks at Cape Naturaliste.
Such a shame its gone we used to get some thumping leather jackets inside the lower ramp section and the crabbing was great.
